I went to look at a few 525i E39 today and was wondering if E39 or previous E39 owners can give their views. Is RM168k a good buy for a unreg 525i (E39) M Sport year 2003 with M Sport suspension, sunroof, M Sport interior trim, M Sport steering, M Sport seat & M Sport rim (can't remember if it was 17' or 18')? Also for the same price, with same M Sport package but without the sunroof. Some unit comes with multi-function steering and TV screen instead. Went back and look through OnTheRoad, found some same year with M Sport package available for only RM14xk. Have not negotiated yet coz I'm in no rush. So much difference :106:

RM140K range looks more reasonable, Rm168K you can almost going for E60 soon....

You have been searching for sometime, I am sure you know the price range better than anyone in the Forum. Based on new car, M-Sport and Non-MSport is different by 30-40K, and used car will be Rm10-20K, personally I think this car should not be priced over RM140K at current market setting. Good Luck!!

I just got a 2001 E39 530i M-Sport UK spec for 115.8k!

Recon (un-registered) or second-hand?

Zank,
Thanks for confirming it. I thought so more than 140k is expensive.

Crymson,

I thought I would share, before I finally bought a 530i 2003, I was going around looking for M Sport 525 or 530 for about 7 month. Did not find any 03 during that search but the price for unregistered recon for 01 and 02 were ranging from 145k to 168k and non M-sport was only about 10k lesser than that. The used recon price was much lower by another 15-20k and usual they are in quite poor condition. So I assume the price quoted to you is fine. If you can nego down to 150+k, I would think that it is a good buy. Again the most important thing to me is the condition of the car. My hunt was from mid 07 till Jan this year. Cheers and happy hunting.
I finally bought a secondhand 03' Ckd sport package from a doctor. the car came original with M-Sport bumper, 17" rim, single big eksoz, sport streeing auto sun shade for rearscreen and both rear window(manual), so far only did 1 service and 2nd 1 was to change ATF oil and the car is like Vroom to 240km/hrs without any problem. Attached my car pic.

hi isaac,
lucky you man ! fyi, i am also searching for one. Saw a few already. There is this 1997 528i that i am interested in.. but not sure whether the cc is too big, or else might go for the 523 (2.5 Ltr)year 2000/01. How do you find the fuel consumption under normal driving condition (sorry, i know the question is a bit ambiguous, you might say it depends on your right foot !), but just to ge your feedback only..

btw, is any of the forumer is looking for e39/528/1997, tell me coz i can show you where to loook for.. cheers

I would suggest go for a double vanos version of E39, M54 engine!
The very 1st full tank, I only manage to clock 300++ kilometers, if I'm not mistaken its 70L rm130++
After engine oil change Castrol EDGE 5W-40, K&N High Flow Air Filter, Supersprint Rear Muffler, New fuel pump, Bosch OEM spark plugs

Now i'm getting 450~500 kilometers, Subang USJ, KL, Sungai Chua, all bad traffic

hi naharnms,

what is the price range for the e39/528/1997 ? does these older models of e39 are much more problematic compared to the newer ones? my friend is intending to sell off his 1997/523(2.5L) but i'm afraid it will be a bit sluggish for a tank like e39.

The M-sport comes with one big tip exhaust, no matter if it's a 525 or 520 or 530.
