Fuel Gauge reading error

Gents,Am having a fuel gauge reading error. Gauge was correctly showing at 3/4 full yesterday, but when I started the car in the evening, it was back to full. I drove back home and it seemed to normalise back to it's 3/5 full reading. But this morning, when I started the car, it was back to full again. It normalised back to half full. Whilst all this was happening, I also did set my On-board computer to display the "fuel mileage left" status. It seems to be fluctuating indifferently. However, it will consistently normalise once the car is drive about 5 - 10km above.Anyone with similar experience on E46 325i???Cheers.

yeah, i had a similar problem.

But mine should i had 1/8 fuel left in the tank when there actually wasn't any! It just would not drop past below 1/8.

So, replacement of the fuel float bowl meter thing in the fuel tank fixed it.

Not sure if it will solve your problem though.

I've changed both my fuel pump and floater to the cost of approx RM800. 300 for the floater and 500 for the pump+floater on the passenger side behind the driver.

I should have just changed the floater to see if it fixes the problem but Mech suggested changing both ....
