E36 - fuel gauge problem

Hello everyone !

I have recently bought a E36 318i and I have the following problem:
My E36 fuel gauge pointer drops fast giving me the sense of having a very high consumption.
Also,when I leave the gas station it shows like I put more gas than I really did.

Do you know what is the issue here and how figure it out?

check under the passenger seat. do you smell any petrol smell?

There is a change that the hose is worn out and petrol is leaking.

If there is no leak there check the engine compartment for petrol smell.

I have done this already and did not smell any petrol smell in the both places! There are no petrol puddles either under the car! Hoses seems to be in good conditions , but anywhere I have decided to change them!
Do you know where the fuel evaporator is located and how to check if it is bad ?
E36 318i 1995 engine M43.

if there are no sign of leakage, you may have to do manual calculation on the fuel consumption.

Fill the tank to full and reset the odometer to zero. Travel around until the tank is almost empty.

Fill to the tank to full again and check how fuel is needed. Check the odometer reading
and divide it the amount of fuel to give the fuel consumption.
