Izit the jerk comes in when it is ABOUT to stop as if the GB downshift to 1st gear? Pls describe the jerk..:)

You got that right Dan08. Its that gearbox jerk that comes right just before your car comes to a complete stop. Goddamn irritating.

I heard a friend of mine had this identical problem on a 735i (2003) fixed using a ZF reset tool. Took almost two hours with the tool plugged in, reset, followed by driving and adaptation. No hardware repairs done.

Has anyone heard about this?

What happen to mine is, I was told it was a "Full adaptation" done, which resets the GB and ECU. I did this, indeed, the jerk gone...but after a few days of driving, the jerk came back, but not so much....

Finally managed to get my gear box diagnosed at a specialist. Apparently, the problem's not with the gearbox. Instead it has to do with the vanos, and the vanos system sending a wrong signal to the gearbox when the car comes to the halt, resulting in a jerk when the gear drops between 3rd to 2nd gear. I was sent away and told to get my vanos fixed with a vanos repair kit, then come back and get the gbox recoded. Anybody knows how much it costs to get this vanos repair kit done?

Here's an update to my earlier posting

Got my vanos fixed, rather than replaced. I also noticed a few other threads of other models like the E46, E60 having the same problems of jerking when coming to a halt.

Most importantly, after 4 months, I finally had the time to get my ride over to M-Scope for the adaptation procedure on the gearbox. Essentially they plug in some pretty large device into the diagnostic port, and go for a pretty long drive, simulating various driving situations, braking, acceleration etc. Essentially, they were getting the "computer" to relearn certain things. After about 45 minutes, the adaptation had been completed.

Result: Fantastic, no more jerks when coming to a halt.

So before you listen to folks that tell you to replace your gear box and part with your $$$, try this adaptation thing first. Every other advise I had before this from BMW specialists was to change the box. M-Scope is a gearbox rebuild specialist and they nailed it on the initial diagnosis, although they sent me off to get my vanos fixed first.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

Did you observe how your mech carried out the job to replace your vanos?
Also was there a difference before and immediately after replacing the vanos but before going in for GB adaptation? Any difference at all?

I'm asking this cuz i'm wondering if the vanos was in fact faulty and thus causing havoc to the GB or for all you know, an adaptation procedure on the GB is all that's needed instead. Cheers.
