Hi all, I have been using my F10 for 3 mths already but until now I am not really sure how effective and how it works for the anti theft car system. So far never heard any beep sounds from the car too such as open / close / panic alarm. In one or two occasions the doors were half lock but no warning been given too. Any bro / sis mind to explain more the anti theft and alarm system pls? Mine is the local 2012 AB 520i model.
TQVM.

There is no alarm system. The cars only come with an immobilizer. Meaning, if the remote control is not near the car, it will not start. That's my understanding.

So if you going to get car jacked, throw the key into the nearest drain. If you sleeping at home, hide the remote. Friend lost his Audi when the thieves broke into his house at night and found the key and drove off with his spanking 3 months old Q3.

thanks bro.
But is there any panic button alarm on the car?

Perhaps can call BMW Voice and ask them to call the police. hahaha. But on a serious note, I am unaware of any panic button.

Just cant believe that such an expensive car has no alarm system.
What a joke man. :)

Hi Lucas271, I just got mine too. I have made complain to my BWM dealer. Same comment, RM380k car has no panic alarm as standard. Would you complain to your dealer too and see what is their response?

Do keep us informed on the outcome of your complain. Really interested to know.

Sorry bro I got an 2012 used car don't think I can make a complain :)
Let me know the update pls? tks

I know it is weird but i dont seem to miss having an alarm. I suspect most bmw drivers have gotten used to the idea.

Yeah, maybe it's a continental thingy. Don't know about Merc but my previous Audi didn't have one either.

Hi Punisher,

Could it be your unit is a non local unit? To my knowledge, the local unit does not come with an alarm.

Hey I got questions; perhaps only somewhat related. I took my car key fob into (328i M Sports, no comfort access but got keyless start), started the engine, then passed the key fob to my wife who stayed at home while I took the car out for a drive. That went on smoothly, with me driving away several hundred meters without the key fob in the car. Can I safely conclude that this is normal? As in you don't need the key fob in the car once the engine is started? That means a person can force the driver out and just drive off without the key fob, without the car being immobilized?

Yes that is correct, the engine will continue to function until it is manually shut down by pressing the on/off button and it is the same for most of the other manufacturers.

Yea...I was concerned about that too in the beginning. You would also need the key fob if the engine is turned off automatically by Efficient Dynamics.

Thanks for the replies. I sometimes lazily take the key fob with me, and press the lock doors button, with the engine still running and transmission on P, and then run into coffee shops to get my food. Any risk?
