when a door is open, even for a short while the interior of my car smells of exhaust fumes..this fumes are quite acrid in nature...wondering if there is an underlying problem...have checked the exhaust system and no leaks were found..'regards

have same problem with my e36. petrol smell inside cabin sometimes during stop start sometimes even when car is accerating. have check exhaust, petrol float and pump, etc & air con intakes. can't detect any leakage. anyone out there who can drop some advise??????

all cars cabin breathes.. most heavily is continental models..

so what happens, especially the e36 onwards.. the boot breather is located at the bumper, near the exhaust, the boot breather is also connected to the rear parcel shelf. so it is easy to shut your car door.
Also this for air movement during the car door is shut for long periods.. so when the car is idle, exhaust fumes dun move so fast cos they are heavy.. since also your car ac is on, doors shut..the outside air is suck in..so will the exhaust fumes..

remember the police inspector found dead in a e36 overnight at the NS Highway ?

he died because of this...

wahliao...

so better don't idle too long. parents mustn't leave children in locked cars with the windows down while they go off (buying 4d i assume).

there is this case whereby if i pump Petronas i can smell the fumes in my car but if i pump Shell i can't smell the fumes (the car is not a UDM)

There is a fuel line which connect to the fuel manifold or raceway which is located just under the intake manifold. Use a torch and shine from the front facing the fuel pressure regulator. Look for sign of wetness/dampness around the fuel line, (especially are near the end of the fuel line)

Pump your tank to full and remove the rear seat. Remove the 2 black over cover & check for sign of fuel. Usually, worn out hose clip or rubber hose will cause the leak. Sometime also the fuel sender casing cover is loose especially if you have change the pump or fuel sender before.
