hello people, just wondering if any of us have got this problem. i have a 2007 X5 3.0si. sometimes i can smell a very strong gasoline fumes in the car. took the car to the workshop to get it checked, but they couldn't find where it comes from. it happens mostly when the weather is hot.

Not sure how how the fuel tanks in X5 is set up, but normally in the saloons the tank is just below the rear bench. Pull the seats up, you'll see the fuel line coming out from the tank. Its either this line is leaking, or the fuel pump gasket leaking. Didn't your mechanic check for this? If not, not a really good mechanic I'd say, because these are quite common.

Bro i had this problem once with my E34. I did a thorough check and finally found the problem. There is a rubber hose which takes the petrol to the main injectors. Sometimes this connection becomes loose when the engine is hot due to heat, expansion takes place. U really cant see it because it is under the fuel injectors main line. But if you can trace the petrol line from the petrol tank all the way to the engine, you will definitely spot it. I don't know your model, but worth a try.

I second this advice too. All of the second hand BMWs I have owned have developed a leaking fuel hose. Usually it's the one that attaches between the car body and engine fuel rail, which flexes a lot from the engine movements.

This is even more likely if the car hasn't been sent to the official service center for some time. BMW service manuals instruct that the fuel hose clamps to be checked and re-tightened about every 50k km or so (can't remember the details exactly)

Turn on your ignition, but don't start the engine. This will run the fuel pump alone and not risk a fire from a running engine.
Flex and twist the fuel hoses you can reach in the engine bay. Keep an eye at the ends of the hose around the clamps. You'll easily spot (and smell) when you've found the leak.

thank you for your advices and recommendations. i will definitely have the mechanics take a look at it. btw, i always send my X5 to this one BMW specialist at Batu Caves, infront of puspakom. any other places that u guys can recommend?
