Greetings to all members. I'm a newcomer of this club and I'm waiting for my E90 323i to be delivered in 4 weeks time. I have waited for 2.5 months now for this new baby that comes with:Xenon headlamps (without adaptive)Active SteeringComfort Access162 RimsiPod interface kit (retro fitted by BMW when arrives)Mud flaps (retro fitted by BMW when arrives)Tail pipe (retro fitted by BMW when arrives)Sprint Booster (depends on the performance)I have a few questions that needed some expert advise.1. What is the difference between 323i engine and the 325i engine? I know it is detuned 2.5L but what are the fact sheets and why create another series, etc.2. Though I have specified comfort access in my option list, I have not seen the comfort access in action for BMW but it works well in the CLK. How does it work in terms of first entry to the car? Does the interior lights up automatically when it detects the key and beeps pleasantly, etc?3. Has anyone tried active steering and is it a nice to have or forsee to be a standard for all cars?4. Has anyone installed the BMW standard iPod interface kit and can the radio displays the title?5. Has anyone used a Sprint Booster on the E90 before? If so, is it necessary to have it?Thanks in advance guys.

Sprint booster is a 3rd party product that enhances drive by wire cars to eliminate lag when gas pedal is immediately pressed. The result is very similar to good pickup performance. I got it for about RM1,200.

I don't think there's E90 323i in Malaysian market. Are you in another market or buying the E92 323i?

Also the sprint booster only re-map the gas pedal sensitivity. There's no performance increase so why spend RM1,200 when you only have to press the pedal harder to get same result?

mikengo,

1) Differences is multi-stage intake and ECU programming. Why? Blame the marketing department

2) AFAIK, no. You have to caress the door handles to open the door and of course starting up is keyless.

3) Mixed opinions on active steering, you have to decided for yourself. Both sides have strong pros and cons.

4) Not much experience on the ipod interface. There are limitations on how you set up the playlists. Imho not worth the money. The new USB/6FL option, however is pretty cool esp with i-drive.

5) I never heard of sprint booster or similar. I wouldn't put it in my car.

I got Auto Bavaria to retro-fit the I-Pod Interface in my E92 and I love it! Yes, it lists the song titles and albums in your radio display and moving from one song to another is pretty easy even with the steering controls. I think it sounds much better too compared to using the AUX input.

juan when are you posting pics of yr new baby??

I take it you haven't browsed through our dedicated BCM E9X picture gallery...under member BMW section :D

Thanks for all the replies guys.

meetoo: Yes, you're right. It's not a Malaysian market and I'm not residing in Malaysia at the moment. I'm gonna miss the gathering and activities that you guys are organizing. I'm quite certain that I've ordered an E90 323i base on its price, unless they are kind enough to throw in an E92 for a replacement, lol. For the Sprint Booster, though it is pricy but gives performance and extended another 40km at full tank. That has proven in my VW GOLF 1.6 FSI.

KL2DC: I'm just afraid that the 323 engine is an old scrap. Now that I know it is N52B25 detuned version, it's not bad after all. For the comfort access, I saw in one of the YouTube videos that the dash would light up then key is detected on the seat. For the ipod USB/6FL, the iDrive option is way too much to invest (clost to RM12,000). It doesn't make sense unless I go for a full spec with Logic 7, TV Tuner, etc.

Juan: How much did you pay for the interface? The SA gave me an estimate of RM2,500 for the kit plus installation.

I've also spec out to have front and back PDC.

What are the accessories that I need to start off when I get the car? I know that I have to change the LED for the angel eyes. Any other recommendations?

Which market are you in? Are all those prices you quoting in your market or in Malaysia?

A Sprint Booster is only a chip-base accelerator for drive-by-wire throttle cars. It does not increase performance, it just multiplies the throttle input and gives the driver the impression that his car is more powerful. The effect is the same as having a heavy foot, so it will increase consumption, not reduces it.

meetoo,

This is the Hong Kong and Macau market. Those prices quoted are after conversion from HKD.

As for the Sprint Booster, I'm pretty confident that is reduces consumption as it is already proven in my existing car (Driving without Sprint Booster since 2004 until early 2007 where my mileage improved after installed).

Are you having one that is not giving you the same result?

Sorry no. I don't need one as I know it doesn't do anything that your own foot can't do :)

How's the E90 market like in HK? What's the price of E90 320i, E90 325i, E90 325iSports and E92 323i? Those are the popular model here.

meetoo,

That's the case, it is very unfortunate that you may have read the wrong review of the Sprint Booster. IMHO, it reacts instantly to overtake sunday drivers and give them a doze of a roaring 323 engine (at this point, it is my poor VW GOLF MK5 1.6).

You can check the website at www.bmw.com.hk to find out the cost of each model. Those are with basic features that comes with back PDC, foldable mirrors, back PDC, BMW PRO radio, cup holders, etc.

Where do you guys get the BMW accessories in KL?

Accessories from official BMW dealer or aftermarket shops, depending on what you want and your budget.

I'm trying to source good pricing for the following items (E90):

1. LED for Angel Eye (HK price can refer to www.car-gym.com)
2. Mud flaps
3. Sunglasses holder to replace cigarette holder
4. iPod interface kit
5. Illuminated door sill

Anyone has any idea where to get these?

Thanks in advance!

Brex or PIAA for angel eyes, dealership or similar for the rest of the OEM parts. Not sure if the sills are worth the money and hassle. Try ebay HK

I got the I-Pod interface from AB for RM1,900 and I think it was worth every penny. I've to thank my SA for recommending this when I initially opted for a CD changer.

KL2DC: Thanks for the tip. Looks like www.car-gym.com would be able to sell me the PIAA brand.

JPB: Thanks for the tip. My SA told me it will cost about HKD5,000 (RM 2,200). He'll come back with the actual quote. I suppose that includes the installation charges.

I've transferred more than 800 songs into my I Pod now and that's still growing. I can't imagine keeping all those CDs in the car if I had settled for a CD changer instead. The sound quality from the I-Pod interface is pretty satisfactory too, which was my earlier concern which has now proved unfounded, fortunately! Heh!
