Hi all, I am a newbie who just bought a 2007/08 320i e90. Previously I used to drive a Waja 1.6m. I chose BMW because of the comfort feeling i thought it would give me compared to a waja. But after driving it these few days, I realise a few things1. The tyres are very hard and bumpy when i travel above 80kmh on KESAS. Im on the potenza RFT tyres It is also very bouncy going thru the yellow line on roads2. The steering wheel is very heavy during slow drives3. The engine sound is very very loud.4. When cornering on uneven road, i lose my confidence as the car feels like drifting off the tyres, as the sways left to rightI have my clients jokingly said to me the other day that they prefer seating in my waja. I seriously need some help here... even if i have to come and show you what i meant. :(i am very dissapointed n sad. thankskenny0126084836

Kenny, I strongly suggest you replace the tires. I'm guessing that they're reaching the end of their life which is what might cause problems 1 and 4.

Did you buy an M-Sport version by any chance? M-Sport is not known for its comfy ride.

Can't be...

Yes, it's more bumpy then camry or so on, but it won't upset the driver like that.
The engine sound of BMW is the music.
The sound insulation of the car is very good. It's so much more better then my previous Japanese car.
The heavy sterring didn't bother me, because it gives me a very confident drive, never the less, very good handling in cornering.

I suspect your absorber is also aged... Check your under chassis. When you buy your car, did you check the car throughly?

Check your engine oil also. Check your engine throughly. What is the mileage? Did the previous owner change oil frequently?

I also think the BMW character may not match your wish list. Each an every brand has their DNA...

Change the RFT to normal tires. It will significantly improve your ride comfort. But don't expect a magic carpet ride like a Camry in your Beemer.

1. The tyres are very hard and bumpy when i travel above 80kmh on KESAS.
Im on the potenza RFT tyres
It is also very bouncy going thru the yellow line on roads - I believe this is mostly due to the M-Sport suspension. My friend who owns a 325i M-Sport also complains that the ride is a bit too bumpy for his liking. Also, as recommended by others, check your tire condition. If the tire is still OK, might be old version of RFT. The latest RFT's are much more comfortable.

2. The steering wheel is very heavy during slow drives - Compared to Malaysian and Jap cars, contis in general have heavier steering. Try and do a test drive of a new bimmer at any showroom and compare the feeling to your car. If significantly different, then something must be wrong with your car!

3. The engine sound is very very loud. - Compare to a new stock bimmer and see whether yours is actually loud or not.

4. When cornering on uneven road, i lose my confidence as the car feels like drifting off the
tyres, as the sways left to right - Bad tire condition, wrong tire selection or shocks are kaput already!

Check the tyre pressure. maybe the pressure is too high.

I drove the 325i M-Sport prior to deciding on the 323i. One of the main reasons I went for the 323i was the soft but firm suspension. Much more comfortable but also not too soft like on a Merc. My tires are all pumped to 240, btw.

Mine is 323i too, but i was told by BMW service that the tyre pressure should be 220 front and 240 rear.....

Actually, according to the label at the door well, if I am not mistaken, it's supposed to be 210 up front....

every time i send my car for allignment, my car gets bumpy. The tyre shops always seem to overfill the air. Once i remove the air to 220/ 240 the car will get more comfortable. even 10 psi more can have effect on comfort level.

Thanks everyone for answering my questions

I now know what to do as I have been stopping those who drives a 320i and asking then questions. Lolz

1. Yes, I need to check the tyre pressure 220 in front and 240 behind.
Also need check tyre condition - I am considering pirelli p zero . One of the drivers told me that non rft tyres made his car worst in terms of sensors.

2 the sound.. I am off to buy a bonnet insulator.

3. The steeringthrong heavy looks like it's normal In conti cars.but it's much lighter in one the drivers car coz his using 16inch rims

4. Swaying yet to check so I have decided to take it to auto bavaria and do a 24 check thingy

Hi Kenny,

I experience the same as you when I upgraded from a Perdana V6 to a 325msport in terms of a hard and bumpy ride. Its a expensive experience which I'm now trying to change to the F10 520d or X5 in hoping for a more comfortable ride

So is it worth it for the m-sport? Am considering changing my current 2001 318 to a 2008 320 m-sport. I like the subtle bodykit and also the bucket seats. Or would just a normal 320 suffice?

Hikaru, that depends on how hard core you are...
E90 makes a lot's of difference even on normal sus vs E46 normal... Quite a lot...
Somemore 320 head is light, very sweet on cornerning even on normal setting.

The beemer comes with low profile tyres that are wider which will account for the bumpier ride as compared to your waja. Also RFT's are also known to be hard. BMW's suspension is also tuned to be harder compared to Japs for your waja which gives it that great handling capabilities. Your car is not that old for he suspension to be worn out so soon. But get it checked anyway.

Dear friends,
I am using 320i M sport. japan spec .If I drive 120km/h i feel better. if not Too bad...
