e46 cockpit switches - im lost what button does what:)

Dear e46 owners, need alittle bit of assistance here new to e46....just got myself the car and im quite lost on the buttons and swith.Need some help on this...thanks in advance1) ACS button below the aircond switches?2) Can smell abit of exhaust fume in the car, issit due to some buttons i pressed that open the air vent? which switch should i press to close it?3) Everytime i start the car, the aircond auto switch on, are there any buttons that can undo the auto on aircond?4) theres this button at the edge of the signal handle...what is it for?

1) ACS - it's ASC - Active stability control. This is for traction control. Later models have DSC. Leave it on unless you know how to control the car with wheel spins and all
2) Exhaust fume - Leave the recirculation button (with two circles and an A on the left circle) to close (green button on right). Press it again, it will open the vent, press again, green button on left, meaning it will auto-recirculate). You can programme to auto close at any workshop with a MODIC
3) Don't think you can adjust this.
4) You mean BC button? that's the business computer. Pressing that allows you to see the fuel consumption, time, distance remaining based on available fuel, average speed on the dash.

No 3 can be adjusted with GT1 tools.

#3 ... mine doesnt auto switch air cond to ON every time I start unless I didnit switch the air cond OFF before engine shutdown .. U probably did not switch the air cond off before you switch off the engine . To switch off the air cond , press the blower buttton to reduce the FAN strength to minimum . THEN lift your finger and press it again once to switch it OFF . Then the whole air cond display goes blank. It is OFF now. When u start the engine next(or turn the ignition key to ON) the air cond will be OFF. After engine start , u can just press AUTO or the FAN blower button to start the air cond lah . Hope that helps.

Yeah, downloaded the e46 manual online and i had some of the questions rectified.

The only outstanding is point 3.....

I tried OFF the aircond before i shut the engine down....yet the next time i turn on the ignition, the air cond will auto start.

on my E39, it will not switch on automatically when i switch off the AC before cutting the ignition. On the e46, it does.

Just some minor corrections on the actual meaning of the abbrevations so that we dont confuse others:

ASC - Automatic Stability Control
BC - On-board Computer (its actually OBC)

Pls refer to page 108 & 109 of yr Owner's Handbook for diagram.

With the engine on and the aircond on,
1. Press once the button marked No.5(with pic of a fan) at the bottom of yr auto climate control panel.

2.Then press once any of the button marked No. 8(with pic of man & arrow) on the left of the panel.

Unless,your unit has other problem,I think this normally should work.

Thanks alot but i have to wait for a day or two until i can try it my car went into workshop due to waterpump problem that led to fan jam. Sigh.....

Will update you on the aircond thingy to see if it works thanks again
