E46 aircond problem

Hi all,I got problem with my aircond system. Some time cool, some time just like natural air. Gas is enough and pump is working well also. Send to dignose, sensor are all ok.... Don know what happen... Anyone of you experince this type of problem??

remove your micro filter including the whole black casing (u need to unscrew to remove the casing), take a torch light and look into the cooling coil. is the cooling coil very dirty blocked by dirt? if yes, its a big project coz u need to remove your whole dashboard to clean/change it.

Is it intimitent air blowing? if yes most probably yr final stage resistor unit kaput already.

No... I think blower is working fine, just some time cool and some time not. I still can adjust my fan speed at the controller. 2 days ago, I found that my aircond not blowing cool air, so decided to send to workshop to have a check. So how after I stop my car and start back the car, the air cond works fine. just don't know why....

could also be your heater valve. Is it cold/hot across all vents or certain vents only?

If is blowing hot air, than all the vents will blow hot air. Same goes to cool air. No matter how I adjust my fan speed, lowest or highest speed, it always got air coming out from vents.

Please try to resetting the FSU.
Pull Fuse 50 for a few second and replace, it worked! .
Apparently the FSU is an electronic speed controller and is powered even when the key is Off; so you need to pull the fuse to reset. A lot less time and $. As the FSU design is probably similar on other models one might try pulling/replacing the appropriate blower fuse on non-E46s: refer to the fuse list by the fuse panel.

Hi everyone,

My 318i '02 CKD model aircon is temperamental. There are some similar symptoms as described above, and some different:-

1. Aircon temperature occassionally cold even at 26'C, sometimes still hot at 16'C.
2. Blower fan speed sometimes blow with intermittent speed difference.
3. When I turned off the engine leaving the interior complete silence, I can hear the dashboard producing 'kretetetektekteketek' noise non-stop for like maybe 10-15mins. What's that?
4. At temp setting above 23'C, footwell airvent blows hot air while the top blows cold air. Is that normal?

My mechanic called Singapore AB. Singapore Ab suggest I take out the Air cond controller and service... Problem that I have might coz by lose cable connection. Any idea how much aircond controller cost?? Hope sifu sifu can help me to solve the problem.... Many many thanks....

Hi guys,

Similar to one of Dylan's aircon problem, my aircon also having the 'kretetetektekteketek' noise on and off, sometimes after turning the aircon on for a while, sometimes at higher fan speed.

The noise sometimes miraculously disappears if I dont do anything to it.

Can any Sifus help in how to solve the problem, the noise is so irritating.

Heater

I've the same problem as well. Sometime cold & sometime hot.
Went and check with Karl at Kelana, foubnd the heater valve giving problem.
Got option is either to blocked the heater line and save 1000++ for the heater valve.
Still haven't done with it yet.

the 'kretetetektekteketek' sound is most probably the air vane trying to close or open.. You might have a sticky vane. if the vane is struck, then it will divert hot air because the vane is select to heater chamber.

For E36, I have bypass the hot water going into the AHU after found that the hot water valve was faulty. Not sure whether it can be done for E46..

suddenly stop. then when i slow my car, it recover. no wierd sound so far. i've asked the mechanic, he said the problem with the sensor. if it recurred, he will ask to change. he didn't have any idea of the price. can anyone help

Seems similar to my E36 aircond problem recently.
1) Blower motor
-got this replaced but problem recurred after few days.
Cost(plus labour charges) Rm 365.00

2)Control Regulator
-got this replaced and problem solved.
Cost(plus labour) Rm 280.00

at least now i 've got the idea of the price. the car is underwarranty from dealer for 6 months. if it recurs for the next 3 months, i will ask the salesman to do for me.

Same here. Whenever it rains or after washing car air-cond will start dying. I realised that evertime the weather outside is either wet and humid or hot and humid, the air-cond will kaput. Maybe the car just can't take humidity. I need help also coz I've spent a hefty sum already.
