JPB,

My humble opnion. I don't think that torque/weight ratio is the only indicator here. If I am right, torque is important say for 0-100 where you need the initial twisting force to move, once on the move especially when you are running above 100km/h, power comes into play more than torque. I did mention earlier that 0-100 timing both the cars maybe the same or the 328 might be faster. (I know that the 3.0 accord does it in 8+secs). Once on the move it's the other way around.

Just my dua sens

If I'm not mistaken, I thought power is handy for the 0-100km/h dash whereas torque is useful for on-the-move acceleration.

Eh? I find the Accord being heavier a bit odd but yet again, it's a bigger car! With those figures i.e. almost identical torque, the E46 328i should be able to trounce the Accord or am I being blur again?!!

If I'm not wrong, I recall the E46 328i was said to weigh approx. 1500kg in the brochure.

thats the irritating thing about manufacturers.. they sometimes like to confuse consumers by what they put in their brochures... dry weight, curb weight.. etc. etc. who really knows how much their cars weigh?? need to find a friend with a weigh bridge....

JPB,

Don't worry too much, there aren't many 3.0 accord on our roads, so tiong away.

Fabian,
Long sweepers are challenging for family tuned sedans. I found the stock tires for the 3.0 insufficient. Once I changed up to 18 in tires, the car handles completely differently and long sweepers are ok now though I still don't race around corners. Bottomline a jap mobile is still a jap mobile.

123,
Agree that gear feel is very personal. Anyway I found the link to the video of the DSG comparison. Here it is

Not sure if I am allowed to post other blogs/website links here if not, sorry Mod please remove it. Enjoy the clip.

being a past owner of a few contis including an Alfa and a string of medium capacity BMWs,i'd have to disagree that a jap mobile is still a jap mobile on long sweepers and corners.
u'd have to look at which jap mobile u are talking about.a new age Accord is of course not adept to the twisties due to its design brief..its just not designed for that purpose.try comparing like for like..a car like the DC5 which was designed to corner bash,or the Altezza RS200 for that matter(RWD).
and i haven't even mentioned the Evo or STi..

but i totally agree about the DSG though..its pure genius.drove a friend's Golf GTi tuned to 280bhp,and the DSG was pure magic.seamless power delivery, gave my STi quite a good run.fantastic stuff.

well said supergripen.

another important factor that we haven't talk about in this topic is the driver.

a 20+ year old car like the 1.6L ae86 in the hands of a very capable pilot can still give a 2.8L e46 with an 'average' driver a run for its money...........in the twisties.

no?

talking about the gti, couple of months ago i saw a silver golf gti being hounded down by a fiat coupe in damansara heights. couldn't see how it ended b'cos they were gone in a blink of an eye. but what a sight!

hey hey hey, no encourage speed racing in public roads. Underground need for speed is a game. Hehehehehehe .... but forum can freely give opinions ...
