I have a couple of questions which I know most of you BMW owners could help:1. The facelifted 318i version is from 2003 onwards right? If I were to get a used one, buying a 2003 and above car is fine?2. I heard that the engine can sometimes leak engine oil after "x" amount of years. Is it a known problem on the E46?3. Is it worth it to buy a used CKD or recond Japan/UK spec 318i?

The facelifted 318i comes with much better 2.0 ltr valvetronic engine which is worth getting considering its superiority over previous 1.9 ltr engine. I've not heard of common oil leak problems but heard a lot of negative things about recond Jap cars and would rather stick to CKD ones with full service history..

Thanks Juan
From what year onwards is it facelifted? 2002 or 2003?
I think late 2002. You can easily tell by the enhanced lighting and bonnet designs.

Thanks again Juan. Actually what are the common problems and what should I be aware of before purchasing?

It's likely to be a 2-3 year old car and BMWs tend to be very reliable between these years tho some teething problems could be there in 1st year or so. The valvetronic is a very reliable and fuel efficient engine. You'll be making a very wise choice! Once you go for 6-potters, then we can share quite a few problems to look out for!

bimmerboy, no doubt the valvetronic 2.0 is a superior engine! Mine is a fully imported with sunroof.

I have been driving it since Feb 2003 - maintenance is very very low. Just service it every 10K interval and you are good to go!

As for the leak, no signs of it......
