E46 engine dead - need replacement

Just found out from my mechanic that my E46 engine 318i (2003) is dead and needs to be replaced. Anybody can recommend where to find good used engine for reasonable price. I have been quoted RM9800 and it seems high. Thanks

I was quoted RM5000 by Soon Eng Hup Segambut for N42 2.0 engine back in April this year, but please open the head and replace necessary gaskets, o-rings, seals before you put in to be on the safe side as you do not know the engine's history. With labour you might spend rm7-8k in total....I rebuilt my engine instead but it cost more and takes longer to complete but the engine feels new.

I spent almost RM10k, the list of items changed is quite long....I did not change piston and con rod but put in new piston rings and new block sleeve. One risk of rebuilding is to ensure the block has no crack at all other wise it will be a huge rework. Now no more engine oil consumption issue,but be sure to changed all the gaskets and oil seals. I forgot to chage the gaskets at the oil filter housing and its heat exchanger so now it leaks a bit. Other than that I'm satisfied with the rebuilt.

Just drop by at their main shop at Segambut but be prepared that junction in front of it is really messed up. My in laws stay nearby and the only reason I managed to go there. Better bring your mechanic to at least inspec the engine before buying it....
