I am Hamilton and i am new here.
I am considering getting myself an E39, first choice 528.
I notice that the 523 is 2.5 litre, then what is the capacity for 525 ?

Can anyone tell me what to watch out if I am getting a 5 series ? Not many 528 but a lots of 523 ..... I am trying to get the 1999 5 series. What are the major parts which need repalcement and what is the related cost ? Say if I were to drive this car for the next 5 years, besides the normal maintenance, what are the parts to be replace and their related cost

Just a suggestion. Why don't you go for 2001 525i? Yes, the price is a bit on the high side but I am not asking you to buy the car right away. This should be your target car for the time being. These are the reasons why:

1. The 525i from 2001 to 2003 are the Last of the Mohicans. E39 finest, best in the world, Bangle-free design equipped with M54 engine.

2. The torque curve is more linear. Horsepower around 192 and it comes with drive-by-wire technology.

3. They share the same engine with E60 built from 2003 to 2005. Meaning, you are actually diving an E60 but in a different shell. Having said this, your next target BMW should be the E60 built from 2005 onwards with a set of new engine or you might want to consider the E65 the 7 series built from 2003 onwards.

4. The price of the car might be a little high. But, don't buy now. The price will depreciate further. Spend the the first one or two years studying the car so that it will give you extra confidence while waiting for the price to drop within your budget, Don't worry, the car will not run away.

5. If you have driven the E39 M54 engine, it will keep you happy for a long time. The car is so enjoyable to drive even if it is a stock standard car. You don't have to change to superchips. The power is there.

6. Since this E39 isThe Last of The Mohicans, the value of this particular model will maintain and I believe a lot of people are looking for it.

7. Delayed gratification pays.
 
Hamilton, try to get your hands on one of those 528i Bimmers imported by Auto Bavaria as they were fairly decently speced. With electric seats, you will also be missing the following:

1) auto dipping mirrors when you select reverse
2) electric steering column
3) memory seats (you will love them)

If you are planning to get a driver to drive you around then get one of those double vanos cars with flat torque curves. It's makes the journey more comfortable at the back

thanks very very much for the info.

due to limited budget, i could only afford 1998 528 which i booked last saturday for rm77,500. i drove the car to a bmw machanic in oug industrial park for inspection (recommeded by one of my friends) and schecked thru with the obd and found no major problem except for the bushes to bereplaced, tail light to be change and the more significant one is the dashboad .... some of the lights on the digital display are nt working but overall still can read the display. i read somewhere that the lights can be replaced by the machanic told me that the entire meter cluster has to be replaced with a new one for future update on software !? can anyone advise me on this matter ?

the dealer is in the process of hp application and i am not so sure whether i can get thru because previously i bought an w124 e280 from a private owner and later i found out it was a kereta sambung and since then i have stopped the instalment and i have also sent in letter of demand to the bank via my lawyer.
if everthing goes well, i thin i would begetting my car next week.

I'm new here. I'm Isma from Wangsa Maju, KL. My friend Eddiefiola introduce me to the club. Hope to meet u guys on the next meet up.

Just join the club last week and manage to meet up with Yazid yesterday. I just bought E39 523i Year 2000, Black. Very satisfied with the ride. Now trying to get some advise from the sifus here...

Previously I was driving a Perdana V6 Twin Turbo, reason for me to change to E39 is beacuse of the image and the comfort ride of the car. Again, HELLO TO EVERYONE!

Come over to my Kopitiam and I'll show u my E39 528i. Newer cars obviously look good on paper and breaks less. My E39 is already 10 years old and has never, ever let me down. Regular maintenance and love keeps my car in imaculate. I can show u my car but do let me know when ur coming so i can bring it to the shop. I hate ppl putting dings on my door.

U could also join the guys for TT at my place once in a while. Just keep an eye on the threads. They are a lot of very nice E39s in the club. We will be glad to help u as much as we can here. And good luck with the purchase of ur car. Just make sure its as what they say. I almost got ripped off buying an E39 528i when the dealer say its a UK spec unreg 2000. I checked thoroughly and found its a used stolen car from Singapore. My advice is to be very careful.

Our advice are all good it does not only make the car smooth it also makes the car look damn ganas and lari lagi laju. First the Bodykits and next the longkang rims and then the SEBIRING exhaust lah..... If still not enough then convert to 3.2litres and then up grade to V8 engine with manual transmission then can do another e39 advert only this time change driver and passanger. hehehe

Woit ........ this Isma need no racuning ... save your saliva to racun others racun. He knows what he want for his car. The first day he got his car, he changed to 19" longkang rims alread, 2nd day Eibach sports springs and B8 sports absorber.

Next, when he is back in town will do body-kit ....... all are in the planning with time plan summore.

This guy know about cars and maybe better knowledge than some of us.
His last ride was twin-turbo on V6 2.0L engine .... further more he is a President of a prominent car club la, ......... our members baru tukar K&N air filter sudah cerita satu dunia.

Anyway, Isma you should introduce yourself in the Newbies Section la, this is other people thread, macam suda hijack pulak.

Dear E39 Experts:

Can I know which spec is most wanted for E39?

- CKD - locall assembled.
- UK's spec?
- Japan's spec?

Can I know what is the diffrence between M52, M54.., you know la..my standard onli up to M50tu...
 
523i using 2.5cc m52b25 engine, 170hp
525i using 2.5cc m52b25tu engine 170hp
525i (2002 above n certain 2001 models) using 2.5cc m54b25 engine 192hp
528i using 2.8cc, comes in m52b28 and m52b28tu engines, both have 193hp

Just want to confrim about E39-525-m52b25tu.., 170hp?

As I know for E34- M50b25tu is 192hp...
