Guys,I want to upgrade my sound system in my e39 01 model which has the standard HU, cassete player and changer. I have NEW Hertz subwoofers and diamond audio components sets ..need to get 2 good amps.1 four channel ( for mid )and 1 2 channel ( for woofers )..anyone done it before? would be pleased if you could recommend a good accessory shop experienced in setting up the system without causing any problems to the ecu and other stuff..( abit cautious after hearing some stories of how an ecu in a E60 kaput while upgrading the SS..thanks for the input!!

technichi's boss(simon) owns an E39, with a souped up ICE.
I have seen other shops do E39s as well such as KKLau, ACP, Klasse and many others.

E60 is a bit complicated and not many shops are willing to touch it because of the i-drive integration. E39 is still okay. Just make sure the HU is fitted properly. The rest are no different than any other car. All the best and do show us some pics and I book an audition ya!!

Heyy affan, thanks for the tip..do u hv any of their contacts or tel no?

Btw, does the standard HU come with the pre out output? or do I have to modify and use a high to low adapter and can the wiring be done via the standard stock amplifier at the rear so that only change speakers and use back the original wiring ..that would be easier rite?..

bro ..i suggest change ur head unit..head unit is like a brain...without gud brain..u wont do anything even u buy a gud amp n gud speaker. any oem hu is totally suck compare to after market head unit. but please look for gud head unit..or at least buy head unit come with xover (with slopes), eq(not simple eq but parametic eq), and time alligment, changing head unit will totally change 50% of quality from the system u having right now..say arios and tata to ur oem head unit even ur using 7 series oem hu...

the standard HU has no RCA output. It needs a line output amp to then connect to an amp. This applies to the non-DSP models.

Does yours come with an amp currently?

Yes affan, There is an amplifier at the back beside the changer unit, I was told that if u wanna add amplifier, u have to use the stock one and connect another amp from the unit if not there will be no sound!!

Hi johnj or Affan, curious about our e39 sound system and upgrade. I'm not really into ICE, but mainly DIY home theater setup.

So, our standard non-DSP ICE came with an amplifier. And, to add another amp, we need to connect from the standard amp unit? Does that mean, the standard amp will be connected as pre-amp for processing, before being passed to the new aftermarket amp for amplication?

Correct me if I'm wrong, we are not suppose to amplify an amplified signal right? Sorry for the stupid question.

So lastly, the speaker wiring has to be re-wired to the new aftermarket amp, right?

Thanks for any feedback. :listen::top:
