used to follow local ice forum back in those days hence familiar with nicks u mentioned. not active but been to a few TTs when in taman desa. nice gear u have. hope u see your e39 build on this forum. maybe can get some idea from yours. still planning mine.

re the unknown factors u mentioned though not necessarily providing answer to your questions.

1. on my e34, the stock alternator powered 5 genesis profile amps (3 x profile 2 ultra, 1 x profile 2 and 1 x profile sub) with no problems. i'd imagine e39 should do just fine for your listed equipment. that said, i'm going with class D all the way for my e39 install.

2. for wiring, i'm planning to use stock speakers wiring. since i'm keeping stock bmw nav headunit, just need short runs of rca from where it'll tap into signal from stock harness to amp(s).

3. will almost certainly need to mod door to fit Dyn mids. i'm going with focal K2P and i think 6.5 3 inch depth probably right at the edge of fitting and maintaining stock factory look, i.e. without having to mod door cards.

4. for tweeter mounting, planning to fit in stock sail panel, if can't fit will then mount at stock midrange position on door card. shouldn't be a problem mounting tweeter on a pillars. there are a few e39 builds on diyma with tweeters and even midrange on a pillars.

Yes its me. Sold the volvo and got hooked onto this e39 craze. Darn good car but high maintenance.

Tot you are into modifying jap cars or something?.

Bought a brand new camry after into modding cars.....then car kena hijack sometime back
so now i think safest bet is e39

erica....modding d door for e39 is a lot of hassle...
unless willing to cut open and do custom make fiber....
then later kenot sell car.....very mahfan.....
maybe just quit ICE altogether!.....hehehehehe

Oic. Sorry to hear about your new car Pam.

I myself almost half quitting ICE. Too mahfun to install and TUNING the darn system again. As I love active and that takes patience and time. Further, need to cut open the door as mine is the scans mids which are 7in in size. To custom the A-pillars again... again very tired. See lah how if someone can come up with a simple solution to install ICE, then I will chuck everything into the car again.

best solution is to stop loving music and listen to crappy sound
i would still go with passive setups....experienced both many times....
still prefer the passives

i don't mind cutting the door panels or the A pillar for that matter....but question is whether would it be to fragile for me to do so

active nice if one likes mucking around with the setup and for learning. i think e39 a pillars should hold tweeters fine and if concern is door panel vibration where cutting involved that can easily be taken care by dynamat or the likes on the back.

a question relating to choice of subs for e39. plan for sub setup is to fire direct into cabin through ski-pass. would you go with two 8s or single 10? 8s bcos ski-pass opening/width is perfect for 8 and 10 bcos i've heard good enough lows from 10 on sub duties but never an 8 to date. if 8 will most probably be going with a pair of id8 and if 10 the idq10.

if i had a pair of mw190s like pam, would consider hanging them ib but that'd probably involve some cutting which i want to avoid. not bcos of concern if/when selling car but just want to maintain stock looks and also not cut into anything.

somehow i find that active setup sound stage is accurate but lacks tonal balance

subs.....a car like e39...i'll go for a good sub like PHD AF12" or something with aluminium based like seas lotus reference
used one before and it is fantastic
d lows r great....there's also attack...
jaar would have remembered how d seas subs sang in youngaccordguy's honda accord...it was a long car n d sub sounded coming from the front engine bay

but it took a beast amp like TRU Hammer to hammer it out...hahahahahahaha

erica.....for the sub to sing....it needs a proper box....

n it will take up ur boot space

if u wanna air hang d subs...dynaudio is a choice...but u need a beast like Mcintosh MC600 300watts per channel to whack it...
McIntosh that amp...is another great sound beast
300watts minimum sine wave.....so u cant image d power when its at d peak of the wave...hahahahahahaha

if u wanna do away with subs....

3 way front full range is d best solution

one combination i've never got to listen nor auditted or implemented

d latest Alpine F1 that running on OEM scanspeaks is one good choice

pair it with probably a good amp like Celestra VA210 or the PHD 2200.....

nothing like Italian amps....

of coz Brax GE is another good choice last time...

Near impossible to do 3 way without any cutting. KF did 3 way active dynaudio in kicks on my e34. I ran it for a few years before switching to 2 way bostons. MW160 don't go low enough. Can clearly feel bottom end missing when turn off sub. Using IDMax 12 but without it taking up any boot space :) Unfortunately don't want to do the same for e39.

Maybe if using MW180 or IDQ8 as mids can do without sub but that'll involve taking off too much metal for kicks. If door mounted, doors will probably vibrate too much. Dedicated car/build for competition no problem but not so suitable for daily drive. That's how i decided will need sub and the current plan is either 2 8s or single 10 firing direct into cabin through ski pass cos won't have to cut anything.

Not going all out for sound quality but just a nice enough sounding system that can keep me satisfied. I've lived with the e34 system for 5+ years and still happy with it. When it comes to choice of gear, it'll all be mid-fi stuff cos i feel they're better value compared to higher end stuff. Alpine pdx amp(s) will definitely feature.

Hi all ice sifus ard... Anyone have any stock e39 speakers to clear from store? If can find a pair of that and the tweet, i would like to buy it.
