I am replacing the head and tail lights on my 97 E39 to that of 2002 original part.Chu Seng in Penang quoted me RM250 for the job that includes:1. modification to the tail light mounting including changes to some screw threads to prevent water infiltration, amend the electrical circuit to recieve the new lights2. Headlight installation as usualUnited Auto in Butterworth quoted me RM200 for a straight forward change for all and extra if there is any modification required but did not indicate how much it would be.Happy Motor in Prai quoted me RM100 including modification to the tail light circuit and said that there is no requirement to do anything else. Can someone advise me which one should I go to?Is this kind of job really that delicate and difficult? Two years ago I had my E34 head lights replaced including adding of a new set of fog lights, fog lights switch, RM25 for the relay and RM30 for the labour.

bro,
I have done mine before and it should be a "straight-forward" job including slight modifications to the wiring /connections. Go for the lowest price as long as all the lights are in working conditions after installations!

I just had my 2000 E39 headlamps and tail lamps changed at Jia Xin in Bkt Tengah. Not sure the labour charges as I had other servicing as well. I bought the new lamps through them. Small modification required fot the tail lamps fixing. I am happy witht their work.

Like my company's policy, get three quotations and go for the lowest.

So I went to Happy Motor at Prai and realised that it was really a straight forward job. I was suprised that there was no modification to be done to the electrical parts at all like what the other two shops have claimed. Just plug and play.

The only mod was to drill two holes to accomodate each of the rear light and they charge me RM20 more for the drilling.

Total I paid was RM120 and time taken was about 1 hour.

Thanks Jerman! The lights you sold me are gorgeous especial the rear ones.

Bro PekChoonHeng,

How do you find happy motor? pricing ok? honesty? workmanship?
Where else do you go for maintenance?

What about you Publicbus? How is Jia Xin? We penangites need to work together lah. I hear Chu Seng is quite reasonable. My UDM was previously serviced by chu seng (by the previous owner).

Egon-E39,
Where do you normally for to now? I am from BM and therefore always go to Jia Xin. Somehow, I feel the charges are quite high and sometimes do not solve my problem at one time. I tried a newer workshop, Bayern, which is close by, a year ago. The chief mechanic is from Happy Motor (Ah Khoon). He is ok but I find his other mechanics rather cocky and does not seem to be friendly.
I heard there is another mechanic at Bandar Perda but have never tried that before.

Happy Motor got many 'tao jiu'..They know BMW very well..

Been to Happy Motor before too, more than 2 years ago. The place was dirty and there was foul smell coming from the bushes nearby...dead chicken or something like that. The young brothers running there are friendly.
