Guys,Just wanted to ask if there is anyone to check if my car alarm is functioning....coz there isnt any indicator except for the car locking and unlocking when i press the key controller....the manual says that there is a flashing light on the rear view mirror..but mine takde light...wonder if my car actually comes with one..should be right???

yep true the flashing lite is the indicator dude ............mine is working

maybe you should try to manually open one of the door with your key to see if the alarm is screaming, that is one way to check if the alarm is working, the light does not flasing could also due to burned lamp, check it out.. keep us updated, pls...

hmm...this doesnt look good..i poked around the fuse compartments last night...and for the function called anti-theft..there wasn't any fuse holder...looks like its going to be a call to AB to check out the cost to retrofit one in...

For those lucky ones who have an alarm stock installed..hows the functions? is it better than the aftermarket ones like clifford or cobra?

bro bmw7833...looks like we're in the same boat....

If you have the light (Red Knob) attached to the rear view mirror, meaning your car should be equipped with the alarm, whether it is not working or due to other electrical problem, then this should be check by the mechanic/Accessories shop, especially those with good experience on E-39. You can always try to open the door with the alarm on, if no sound, obviously there is no alarm or alarm is not functioning. The sound is very basic, bupp...bupp.. bupp...., I think you can easily install some after market alarm for a low cost... Do you have the reverse sensor? As most of this car doesn't come with Reverse Sensor, you can get one install for less than 30 mins /RM250. Hope this help.

Mine dun have the red knob which attached at the rear view mirrorr ler..So that mean my car dun have the alarm system? I tot that all e39 dun have the alarm system..hahh..

no matter E39 or E38...local & japan come without alarm system even got red knob which attached at rear view mirror...at Europe AB many optional item for adding...alarm system is optional item...that mean UK Spec sure c/w original alarm system...

mine also dun have any knob on the rear view mirror.... have just called AB in glenmarie...seems that its confirmed that local doesnt come with any built in alarm..only central locking...

well i've asked around and there seems to be a place in TDDI that does the BMW alarm retrofit install...waiting for them to get back to me abt the cost...

I dropped by the Cobra Malaysia place today to check with them about installing an alarm into the car, well basically i have 2 options.

1. Install the kit tailored for a beemer, ie. means i can reuse my key controller and it will include a siren, internal motion sensor, immobilizer...total damage is rm1.8k (but am still trying to nego the price..any other forummer wanna also do the install? maybe can get cheaper price)

2. Install the Cobra 3195 kit which has the same function as above but it comes with its own controller...and the controller looks like the stock honda city controller (not very apealing IMHO)...total damage for this option is RM1.5k

Any other forummer also wanna do install? should be able to get cheaper price if more ppl do it...Installation takes one day. Drop me a PM if your keen.

Replay,

Tumpang yr thread arr:wink:

My E39 CBU imported by AB. My remote is not functioning even after changing the battery. Already checked by alarm & BMW specialist but they unable to fix it by manually setting. Plan to have it check by AB. Any advice whether it can be fixed?? Paiseh lar BMW without alarm. If possible want to keep it ori & not to install the aftermarket alarm system.

Since we are on the topic of alarms, mine seem to go off randomly, especially at my office car park. Anyone face the same problem?

yep john540, yours exactly like mine but my mech said it can be done by re-tune the sensor i guess coz it's too sensitive but i havent done mine yet

my e39 have no sound at all..even when unlocking/locking the door via remote. mine is local AB CKD.
does that mean my car no alarm?

You can ask workshop to program hazard lights to be switched on when unlocking/locking door via remote.
