hi sifus,i planning to upgrade.so which model between E39 97yr 520i & 523i are consider to buy n most suitable for my age (25yrs)??

Wah only 25 wanna upgrade to E39. If tax is not your concern, take 523i. Maintenance wise both the same, power u will be more happier with the 523i. Actually for your age an e46 is more suitable and the e39 is not as nimble as e36/e46. Its more solid like a nuclear bunker and cruises at high speed(Life begins at 200)hehehe

git the 523, you are driving a 318 now, changing to 520 will make it feel like a downgrade in terms of performance. I agree with earselle, for you age, an upgrade would means going for the E46 325i, that would be a better reflection of your youth and energy.

At that age, I suggest you go for E46. Otherwise, you'll look like an 'oldman'.....hahahahah.....just kidding. Give that age a chance to enjoy 'younger & more nimble' machines.

Anyway, wear and tear normally happens for E39s that age.

Gosh, the comments here make me feel old in my E39. Fortunately there are older people I guess (ref: 3-point star).

in that case you should upgrade to a E90...... :D

thanks all sifus,

i never been drive E46,so dunno the stable n solid.
i had tried E39,it quite solid n very stable when going to 200km.
and another reason is E46 quite expensive now.
E39 523i 97yr only 11+K. 520i 97yr = 9+K.
that mean all sifus recommended 523i will good than 520i?
all the maintenance are same?only the road tax?

boss, just take the 523...do it........do it now :D
fren, many different between single vanos & double vanos??
any different between this two model.interior & exterior?

Go for E46 rather than E39. E90 if you can afford. At the rate I am driving my E34, no one on the road can accuse me of being an "Ah Pek", not that I am that old ...

Heck enjoy BMW to their fullest by powering up mid corner and tail swing 2 feet. Rubber is cheap and gas more expensive these days but "cheap thrills" remain cheap thrills especially after a hard day's work....

Exactly. a good condition 1996 E39 528 can be had for around RM110k if not lower. :D But an E39 at 25????? Hmmm......not a right combination.

forget the 520i 0r 523i, get the e39 525i 2001 onwards with M-sport package....

The M54B25 unit has no torque lah. A car that heavy need at least a 2.8l to really 'move' it. I would still prefer a M52B28 over M54B25 anytime. Nothing can replace displacement.

Of course, roadtax is a diff issue then.

Hi all,

I also noticed that the price between 523 and 528 is not much difference but it's more difficult to get a later model of 528 (> 2000).

Can some sifu here eleborate on the diff between 523 and 528 in terms of performance, maintenance, fuel consumption, finishing etc?

cheers!

Guys give him a break. I love barges since young. I have been driving barges from 164, Accord to my current E39. Perhaps it is just a perception issue and not an image issue. I say go for the E39. It is a different animal altogether else why would BMW make the E39 5 Series for. :D

all sifus,

'97 523i or '99 520i?
which 1 is reasonable/best to choose?

'97 523i prices almost same as '99 520i ....!!

dude!

get the 523 and be done with it.

What exactly are u looking for in the engine? Power right? so, go for 523.

If u can afford, just go for it, and never settle for the 2nd best, it'll haunt u for life i tell you.

So Wang! fit those 523 in and sprint like a mad cow!
