E39 540i (M) vs E39 M5 (M)....

Hi guys, hope all is well. Been a long time since i post but recently got the bug for the said car. Just wondering if anyone could share more of your thoughts/ experience/ preference about the 2 said car. If i am not mistaken, the 540i is a 4.4 while M5 is 4.9 , both V8. And what would you pay for them today? Lets just say both are in immaculate condition, mileage below 100k. Would like to hear what are your thoughts. Thanks. Regards
