E39 528 changing engine

Dear all,I need to advise here.My ride is E39 528 single vanos, year 98.Last nite, I saw the 'Check Coolent Level' message and so I procceded to add water; and in the reserve tank, I saw there was some oil and some white colour thick liquid stuck on the wall of the water reserve tank.This morning I sent my car to my workshop and upon thier initial inslection, I was told that there should be a minor crack in the engine I was advise to change the engine (Japn spec) which will cost me about RM5,000.Any comments ?Thnaks.....Hamilton

I will go for 2nd opinion by other mechanic before i part out the money.

cheap la, mechanic quote me for jap gearbox (e34) pun RM5k. then again if i have to change, will change to 530i engine, very, very powerful.

get a 2nd opinion.. could be just burned gasket...

all you may need is just a top overhaul...
