E38 2001 sound system upgrade

I've done mine with dvd monitor front and roof. may part it out due to using the ori 16x9 monitor. u can test the setup if we meet up later..

I have done upgrades to my other UDMs. To be honest the E38 2001 in my opinion is running on a stock seperate amp and is decent enough to me. The sound is clear and not much distortion .

However if you feel it needs to be upgraded and do not disrupt dashboard controls u have to pickup the signals from the speakers. Meaning ur speaker wires will be channel to an input on another amp as high input. Your amp selection must be the ones that are able to pickup high input signals.This amp will reproduce these signals to your existing speaker positions. In this manner it will not disrupt all stock controls on the dashboard and steering wheel controls.
Also take note ..the existing speaker positions are not the optimum location for better sound quality.

BTW a word of advice...do go to those who are well verse in good installation. A good install only be able to give u improved sound system.

Thanks...tmrw I am going to a trusted ICE dealer and installer KK Lau (based in ara damansara). he makes you listen to the recommended speakers he suggests and then gives the comments on everything and then you will actually be able to make a sound decision what you want to do. He is a judge on ICE tournaments etc. check out his website: www.kklau.com.my

Lau suggested to replace my front and back components speakers with FOCAL PS130. I listened to them and the sound is awesome. Plus to put a 13"subwoofer with a monoblock amplifier for it. when i bought my e38, the back ori. sub speakers missing and there is a place where the previous owner had installed a mono amp and 13 inch subwoofer.

do you know the full specs for the e38 728i (2001) stock amp and wattage ratings? also my existing bmw 6 cd changer (alpine oem) seems to skip quite often. i read in one of the bmw UK sites how to take it out and open the casing and do some simple cleaning and adjustment and it will be fine..have not gone to do it..however i am looking to replace the ori bmw 6cd changer with an alpine changer and I read in one of the bmw forums..(cant remember which one) that you can get an interface adapter to connect any alpine cd changer (ibus system) to the e38 stock amp (different bus system) and still maintain the steering wheel audio controls. any ideas on this ??

Prab, i am running dice system. Took out thr changer and plonked in the ipod system. All function on steering and display otof ipod details on dash. Much better sound quality thank stock.

If your 38 comes with factory ice with amp... Then it will be pain in the butt to find bette speakers. I would suggest maintain all ori speakers and upgrade a sub. The ori speakers 5.25" are woofes and not mid. the mid and tweet are to small ones on top. Cannot find anything else to top them. The amp out put are filtered and will be pain to cross.

If u have 728i then no such issue lah...

bro, where you get your rockford setup? i might want to upgrade mine current ori to rockford as well. is a smp need if we do this upgrade from ori?

I got my speakers from autocraft but installation was done at a old shop at Stapak. Nakamichi are not too bad either and its half the price of rockford

Just the speakers from them but installation not done there as you do need to have a customized crossover and amp to optimized the sound to suit your listening preference.

Personally I feel we don't need to pay premium for our speakers, something around 500-700 per set of component speakers from reputable brand with good reviews will do. Rockford are expensive.

May I recommend nakamichi if you love jazz, blues, R&B, above all a good installer is most important one I found are not expensive. They are around RM700 incl of installation and tuning per set. Do watch out for copies as they are many from lowyat forum or mudah. All ori box come with 3D security stickers.

Really interested in your ipod system. Care to share how to go about to do this.

I share with you that the stock system on the 728i is very decent. I have heard quite a bit elsewhere and I do find the SQ on the stock 728i is very very acceptable. Perhaps it just need to add a sub that can compliment the whole system.

BTW my stock amp have this problem that sometime it can switch off and on for no apparent reason. Do you know anyone who can fix the stock amp..?

I think you are talking about the Intravee II system. Apart from connecting Alpine changers you could also connect iPod like DICE system but with more added functions.
