e36 Digital Air Cond

Hello all BCM sifu,i am newbie fr johor and i've intro myself at newbie forum..is any sifu know is it possible to change the e36 original air cond to the digital type?how much will it cost?TQ!

You will need to change the blower also as the control unit for the digital unit is different from the analog unit. So its more than just the front panel that needs to be be changed.

Thread hijack...

Mine's the older non-digital type... problem is both the temperature knobs don't work anymore, aircon is pretty cold (good for lunchtime travelling though) constantly, even with the temperature set to the redzone... I know the compressor is cutting in and out every couple of minutes or so, which means that the temperature is regulated, maybe to some low 20s Celsius... so, what is wrong... temperature sensor kaput? Or just too dirty, covered with dust and dead human skin cells and what nots...?

The old E36 air con duct or flap is manually adjusted by a knob. if you observed the digital type, this "knob" no longer exist.. why? because the flaps now are now motorised. hence you also have to motorise the flap for:-

1. flap for the front window
2. flap for the front louver
3. flap for the bottom louver.

The blower for older version is two wire system whereas the newer version is 3 wires system for the motor.

Most probably thermostat.

Okay, will get it checked out... hopefully I won't be forced to convert to the digital aircon controller... for me, the more basic the thing is, the better it is...

mine is the digital type. but what i really want is heater. you guys dont gelak! its really helpful when u drive at 4am, or u had to cross country in the rain to get to your car. i tell you.... comfort like under mama's armpit! i never get to operate it. or the car never came with heater ka... some more u put 27deg also feel nothing.
is it that BM aircond/heater kaput so easily? also got e34, heater also not working. how horr??? let me know lah! :listen:

Heater (and all the related parts) would have been omitted by Auto Bavaria when they assembled the E36 for local market... saved them a few cents here and there, or maybe increased their margin only...

U solved your temperature problem? Or is there no cure? I have the same problem as well. I was told that the air con could have been modified and the heater cut off so that the cold air is 'colder'. But this posses a problem as it's damn cold during rainy days. Sigh.....

I just converted mine to digital. For the looks itself, he car looks 5 years younger

I think digital interface module is about RM400 now.

snchin, nope, not yet solved... yes it's a bit too cold on rainy days, but not a problem during hot afternoons. I just manually switched off the compressor if it's too cold, then turn it back on after it has warmed up a little... manual thermostat.

manual thermostat... u dont get the hot air blowing onto ur skin sensation. dats a lost. some more no proper air circulation, windows gets foggy.

i find it rediculous having 2 sets of temperature control... there should be an easier way to get heater effectively. i know one of u guys out there got the answer! help us out.

my e36 came with digital display, how does the analog look like? care to post a pic anybody.

how much did the whole convertion cost you? Last I checked, parts itself arent cheap. 2nd hand somemore.

Same here dude. Manual thermostate. It's just a waste cant use the dual temperature for left and right vents.
