Dear all, recently my brother's e36 318i is having a noisy air cond compressor. Was quoted by A.Bavaria RM 4.5k for a new piece plus labor. Just like to ask if there is any other alternative to the original ones? Any aftermarket brand that is reliable? Appreciate your info. Thanks. Regards

4.5K, out of their freakin mind?

Recond $850 + labour
New $1600 + labour

These are standard prices at most udm workshops. Some reputable aircond shops can do it too.
And yes, they come with warranty.
Browse the E36 maintenance thread, you will get some comparison n workshop info.

While ur at it, be sure to change the worn out pulleys, tensioner(can be noisy if worn), micro-filter and belt.

Your Ac will freeze u ;)

Thanks bro. I know AB prices is always sky high...problem is my brother is in Kedah, not many reliable mechs who can fix BMWs, in fact i do not know any at all. Thus always send to the authorised workshop ie Lee Motor. Even that, they are just ok, not fantastic.

Anyway appreciate your info, helps alot. Thanks :)

Just ask your brother to drive to Penang for the fix.

or even with that amount , you could also drive down to KL and yet have spare cash to live a day in a 5 star hotel ... :)

Just to update, found a reliable air cond shop, had the compressor bearing replaced, no more sound and still cold as usual. Replaced filter as well and all in RM 350. Not too bad.
