e36 325i checklist during test drive

Hi guys, I dont want to go test drive the car blindly. Would appreciate if the sifus here can point out some of the important things to check while looking/test driving the car. Will be seeing both Auto and Manual tranny from a 2nd hand car dealer. Want to make a checklist before going.THanks in advance!

Original Auto Bavaria 94/95 sports edition manual tranny chassis no. is AC580xx (confirmed on BMW TIS software), so get the dealer to show you a copy of the registration card.
 
i came across many bimmer with these problem
1 , steering jerk when brek (maybe is lower arm kong )
2 , when brek hard , the abs light came on ....
3 , oil filter housing leaking (this is like 7 out of 10 will have this problem )
4, steering rack kong ...
5 , absorber kong (when test drive u dont realise this is a bimmer , u will be thinking bimmer dont move this way )the car float
6 , vanos dont kick in ...( no water sound coming from the engine )
7 , GEARBOX !

Hahahhahah ....and make sure the car not meet serious accident b4 .......

hahahahahaha.... good one le dei... of all the items listed above, will be pointless if u dun bring lionel together with u....
 
...drive with the windows wound down to hear anything out of the ordinary....from the engine bay, exhaust or from the axles/drive trains...

...for accidents, look under the carpet in the spare tyre boot bay for indentations or cracks...

...what you see in the battery bay may surprise in a welcome way or in a concerned way...

...in the front, look along the engine bay sides where the bonnet meets to see any un-eveness or listen to the engine for very soft to high pitch metal ringing (this is metal rubbing against metal, a sure sign of impact)...

...or maybe you should consider if Lionel would like to share his expertise with you...

actually is very hard for u to see the diffrence, becox u dont have a bimmer now , maybe u can join our tt and ask us where is where and where what to see ...... join us for a tt

Hehe.. will surely join you guys for TT after Christmas. Kinda busy with it right now.

And i guess the best is to bring Lionel along with me when i want to view a bimmer?
 
Are there any e36 325's that comes with a 5-speed auto engine?

There is one unit that the owner claimed that he has changed the engine and gearbox. According to him, its a 5-speed auto. Can some of you sifus enlighten me?

Also, is it advisable to buy a car that engine has been changed ?

You really have to find out the real reason why the engine was changed. One of the cars in my workplace need to be overhauled badly and the quotation is high because so many part need changing. So one manager suggested getting a mechanic to find a potong engine, swap it and sell the car. My boss said okay, go ahead and do it. :rolleyes:
 
According to the seller, the old engine kaput already. But other parts are ok.
 
Well, it's the same reason as my company la. But our case is just to find any working engine and put it in and sell it, don't care how well it works. If your seller is doing the same then best to avoid this car. Find out when he did the engine + gearbox change and verify with the invoice or the workshop. If only done recently, run far far away!
 
make sure you check your 4 or 3 digit number with a fortune teller whether is the number brings good feng-shui or not ...who knows you may end up stricking big at TOTO ,KUDA , MAGNUM ....
 
one note ...while test driving your car and you PALM tends to sweat... leave the car ..... NOT YOUr TYPE !!!
