E36 320 vanos use 318 gearbox

i have been playing with manual boxes for years, i did not know they are all the same ?

The most are the torque rating is different but with the same ratios for the gearboxes.

dun believe what bently manuals tell you...Jsen, do a bit more research, you will see why 318,325, 328 and M3 boxes are not the same.. even the torque rating is different.. as for is Is box, it's a good box to use, cos the ratios are very close.. different from the normal m43 boxes...
i have used a M42 and a e36 boxes before, and they are not the same..
i must have TT to tell you...

yup, sometimes bentley are kinda deceiving too..For 328 & m3, i've gotta admit it that its definitely diff gbox, . I've consulted a few on this matter too, m42 to m50, no doubt, tats not an issue at all. On theoretically, ratios are same, but not the torque rating. Practically, I have a doubt on it too.. i've tried searching on the internet, n surprisingly, it concurs too with the bentley info. On ebay, the selller are selling the gbox n their info was--> fits all from e36 318 - 325, its a 220 getrag.

I've asked bundy(borrow yr name kejap) too on this matter for the m42 gbox; if my car can, i cant see y your m50 cant.. Then, i did a research on the ETK for m42 gbox, n was shocked to find tat the m43 gbox are the same as m42, they even shared the same part number.. Now my own hypothesis is, if m42 = M43(gbox) & M42 = M50 then M43 = M50. Correct me if im wrong. just to share.

I believe this have been a myth since long, i would seriously like to put an end to it too.. or maybe just me... Would like to hear more from u too..
