Same-same here...but a bit slower than you....i think i should de-carb my engine and check the injectors.

actually got a cheaper way, according to the owner's manual BMW encourage us to drive above 4000rpm on the highways to clear the engine from built-up dirt. Tried it and it really works! After a long journey the engine feels more responsive.

At least you can reach top speed.. it takes me over a min for me to reach 140kmh! I havent been able to reach 150kmh this past week

are you serious? Almost any 90s car 1.6 and above can reach 160kmh ... something must be wrong. Time for overhaul?

no white smoke from the tailpipe so far. That's the sign for overhaul right?
I got two more green blocks before my Inspection. I think I'll check it out then.

Yeah I reached 170kmh easily 2 years ago. Collected 18 speeding tix in 6 months.
Then I played it slow, 90-120kmh max. And this past month I tried to push it again, but I'd be happy if I can reach 140kmh

not complete overhaul, top overhaul only... I was quoted RM1.3k for it so I'm quite tempted to try it myself. While doing that can do some performance mods eg. enlarge throttle body, port & polish etc.

I'm not sure how the M40 ecu functions but some ecu adapts to your driving style, so maybe after 2 years of driving slowly it has assumed that 140 is the max speed. Any sifus wanna comment on this?

Btw, M40 has mosselman replica turbo kit available locally, the easy way to get power at low cost (RM3k for turbo kit conversion).. ever considered it?

yeah I think confirmed something is definitely wrong. I thought all 1.8 M40's are slow on pickup, but this morning I followed another M40 318 from multiple traffic lights and even with pedal to the metal he continuously sped away. He can even overtake some wiras which I dont remember I could.

I'm a steady driver, never pressed the pedal all the way before. Its only this past couple of months that I suddenly had the urge to keep doing that and testing my car.. maybe that's why I havent noticed the sluggishness before.

Hmm apparently somebody put some Kembara spark plugs in my Bimmer. I changed to the Bosch set and now I can get to 160+ but, still slower than I remember. Btw, what's the Bosch Set 4 thing with the 4 extruders on one plug? Does it help with power?

Holy crap.. it wasnt the spark plugs.

A few days ago my gearbox "kong". It went from gear 1, to gear 2, and then slips to gear 1. Sometimes the gearbox light comes on, sometimes not. If it comes on I will shutdown the car and restart.

I try to shift manually from position 1, to position 2, and to position 3. When I shift to position 3, it hitches a little bit and nothing happens (its as if I havent shifted to 3). If I put it in position D, it goes from 1, to 2, then slips to 1 and RPM goes high (about 4000).

Went to BMtech in USJ19, Mr Wong diagnosed the car and says nothing is wrong with the gearbox. Apparently my pedal is out of position and that's causing my gearbox slipping problems. When done he only charged me RM50 for it (thank God, I was expecting almost RM4K). The performance improvement was immediate, I could not stop flooring the pedal after that. I didnt realize my 1.8L can give me that much excitement..

I just reached Alor Star, and that 70kmj top speed in the mountains near Ipoh.. its nonexistant. So I would like to tell my other two mechanics that its not my 17" rims thats the problem!

Anyway, I noticed that if I floor the pedal from speed 0, my first shift to second gear is done at about 4500rpm. Is this normal? If it waits so long to shift, then I'll probably not ever need the M mode and S mode right?
