Hello guys!Im new bie here.Just bought e36 1993 last week. Not familiar with continental car especially with BMW.But glad that i found this forum, i hope i will get some much appreciated help and advice here. Here my gear box symptom:1. Slow to engage Reverse - it takes a couple of seconds for Reverse gear to bite2. Occassional 'kick' when shifting up under certain rpms (especially when you release the throttle after excelerating under load)Any sugestion what to do? and is it settled with changes the ATF oil and flush?Need your opinion since you all are the expert on it and thanks,Realy appreciated.

First thing, Welcome to the club.

Buying a second hand car, is like buying chocolates, you won't know till you bite it.

As for G'box, the synotoms you mentioned is the ATF level low, not much oil to move the torque converter or less in the valve body.

Get it check quickly, low ATF, can 'burn' your clutches in the gearbox.

cheers..

If the symptoms persist after topping up or changing gearbox oil means your gearbox is going to kaput already.

Thank guys..I Do survey got 2.3k Pandan cheras. they rebuilt the gearbox.on the road RM2.3K. is it ok and it plus warranty 6 month. any one to sale good condition 3181 gearbox? tq

HI Welcome to the club, my gear box also been face the same problem, before i repair it i change the gear box oil, its work and powerful, after 6 month the problem happen again, than i repair and change some part, also repair the long sub, cost me 4k, come with 6 month warranty.

If after you have changed the ATF oil and also the filter the problem still persist then check your engine mounting as cracked mounting can caused the "kick" effect.

Do remember M40 and M43 engine is using a softer mounting even it look the same as M50 mounting.

Hello bro, how much?how to contact you, can pm me your phone no?tq bro

Since we're on the topic of GB & stuff, I have a few questions of my own:

- Is there a difference between GB rebuild & GB overhaul?
- I've checked on quite a few places on rebuilding GB. The quotes varies from RM3.5k to RM6k. Just wondering if it is possible to rebuild a GB without changing all the minor parts inside, I'm asking this not because of my convenience but because of the possibilty of being charged exorbitant fees for only a partial rebuilt.
- If a GB is faulty but still functional, would it differ in terms of charges & repairs required if I rebuild it immediately or later on once the damage feels very apparent?
- Are there any GB rebuilding specialists around town? I've heard of some workshops that only repair GB, what are the probable pos & cons?
- Is it possible for a problematic GB to produce a funny stench when driving normally / after normal driving?:D

Appreciate all your invaluable feedback:top:
