Mom's E34 520i 12V (manual) desperately needs a new rpm and water temp meter. The ones in the car are toast.BM Auto on Jalan Ipoh quoted me RM800 for a second hand unit which I though was ridiculous!Any members here can help me with sourcing a second hand meter cluster? Your help would be greatly appreciated!redd

Is ur meters or S.I. board that gave away?

If it's ur S.I. board, I hv one unit wif me.

Regards B)

wolverine, sorry but how do i tell if its the SI board?

all i know is that the mechanic at BM Auto took a used meter unit, replaced the existing one and it worked.

redd

More often than not, its the meters that went kaput. I don't if any chop shop guys are willing to sell it separately to you but market price for it is about RM 500-600.

I replace some capacitor for my e32 and till now works fine. Find somebody willing to open your meter. Look for obvious blown cap.

iqlima, does it works for the fual meter?coz mine dead oredi, jus wen d fuel nearly kong only d lights light up..

Fuel meter I think more related to level sensor attach to fuel pump.you might just clean it but very very careful open the pump

I have OBC,don't care much my fuel meter

you can test the meter guage i.e. fuel, temperature, speedometer and tachometer by doing the following steps.
1. with the ignition in off position, press the odometer reset button.
2. The mileage, service indicator and trip meter will light up.
3. while holding the reset knob down, turn the ignition key to 1st position only.
4. when you see the mileage change to 1,2,3,4,5 & 6, let go the reset knob
5. all the meters in the instrument cluster will goes from 0 to 100% and back to 0%.

try this test to check the meter..

I know it work for E36 and E34. (model that does not have the OBCII)

Driving the E34....

There is two buttons on the dash (or shall we call it sticks ?) On the left stick, you use it to reset the mileage while the one on the right is use to call out info like fault code etc....

try using a small screw driver (flat) and a small hammer. Tap the knuckel or the extrude part of the fuel pump cover in anti-clockwise with the hammer and screwdriver.

If you are checking for the fuel sensor, you can check it without removing the cover. just unplug the connector and measure the resistance.

You should get about 10 to 170 ohms depending on the amount of fuel in the tank.
