if u can hear starter spinning but not cranking, then it's the problem with the solenoid. Either service it or change it.
Second hand E30 starter about RM200.

better do it soon, cause you will never know when it will kaput for good.......then gotta tow the car, repair charges etc, etc, etc

I did saw one e30 changing it starter motor with an e34 starter. The sound are different (up to individual pref) he like the sound of e34 starter motor cranking rather than e30 starter motor sound. (his m20b25)

heard from another forum there's one guy behind Carbi Deco Puchong (near Tesco Puchong) and another one in the Shell station outstation Armada Hotel. I haven't been there myself so don't know whether both of them still at there or not.

guys....need some sifus ere.....

i'm drivin around wif my faithful beemer 2day..n guess wut....i'm stuck again....

diz time i just "cool" of da coil wif damp cloth bcoz it hot (past cases wif mini n vw)....n few minutes it an start....

my question is.....is it becoz of hot coil it wont start....

before i change to a new one.....is there any part smwhere distributor dat i should check....diz is to ensure it will not damage my coil again in short time....

thanx....

when it's hot, metal expands and that may have caused a bigger gap between the carbon brushes and the contacts on the solenoid. That's what I think it is lah. Me no expert.

Anyway, a lot of things tend to misbehave when it's hot

BTW, u can always opt for new ori starter. About RM800 I think.

hans 11,

You have two possible problems:

1) You starter needs servicing
2) Your air slide valve needs to be replaced

I described a somewhat similar problem in dis forum last year r sometime b4 dat. :)
In my case, it took half a year to discover the real cause. Finally traced it to some solder bits which had dropped off from da fuel relay circuitboard.
I had Richard, wireman at Milan Motors, solder it back for RM20 & went on my way without anymore recurring events since. :D

i can see...my starter need servicin...waitin 4 weekends...class pack rite now....btw....

kevster: describe "air slide valve"....dunno where....do u noe da price??2nd hand n new....a pic will be great...hehehe

2cents : fuel realy ehh??..its in da fuse box rite....is it ??...i want 2 check wherevr pOssible....

hi hans....

i agree with what tyke said.... there could be many causes why your starter motor wont crack or sometimes crank.... first you most identify your problem and address it accordingly.... come to the TT and you'll learn more about the do's and don'ts.....

for me, i'm having this problem also and the cause is the ignition key contact..... :beaten: but it is relatively easy to solve.....

if you are a relatively DIY kinda guy, PM me for steps on how to diagnose your problem.....

cheers,
