100% agree with u guys on the brake pedal...but how about new bumps on old roads frequently traveled n no signs as well as unpainted bump...matilah....sigh.....(still cursing the DBKL n MPPJ )....they should have standard bump hights....not one high one low n some like bukit....dont u guys agree on tht...
Finally someone here has sense to think what kinda humps/bumps we're talking about here

Like i agreed with 'pussy', it all boils down to sheer luck when driving.

I've hit bump hard enuf before.. still unscathed.. u can't deny the fact that using the correct size tyres help... every mm counts...

i was using 205/50/15 the car was lower but it was a close call with the speedbumps. Now using 205/55/15 i feel a lot safer. my centre box used to scrape the bumps. now no worries

Mine is slightly out of spec too, my OD out by 6% by using Front/rear with 205/45 R17, lowered by Hotbits with yellow bilstein (sports). Never scrap anything as i guess the absorber is quite high. Notice it immediately when changed from ori absober to bilstein.

I think the best is control your car "height / clearance" with the correct coil spring, as some coil spring with lower your height differently !

Aiks, i guess that i'm using the correct size for my E30 wheels rite now. I was wondering whether i'm able to get 215/60/15 or 215/55/15 size tyres or not for my E30's 15" in the market or not.

I'm still looking for another set of wheels for my E30 as currently fitted with locally manufactured BSA 15" wheels now as the previous original bottle caps rims sux la! Hehehehe....... ;)

do not make the same mistake as me and buy 215/60/15 or 215/55/15 they will rub against your chasis....no point.....go for 205/55/15....195/60/15....if you can get those then get 205/50/15 or 195/55/15 (please note using smaller ratio will be a bit more uncomfortable)

also get the appropriate tyres for your style of driving.....dont listen to all the tyre shop guys they will sell you lorry tyres if they could...ask around B)

skar19, thanx for ur advice buddy! I appreciated it a lot as i dont have to putih putih go buy & be a guinea pig then regret later. Hehehehe....... :D I was told that 215 width tyres will scrap my fenders from a good friend of mine who owns a tyre shops in my hometown, S'ban.

Hmmm........ what bout if i go for 205/60/15 tyres? Will it cause the same scraping problem? I want wider tyres for my E30 now as the current ones are not width enough ler. :aggressive: :getyourfactsright:

I'm using 195/60/15 and it's good enuf.

Wider doesn't mean better. it's the rubber compound that determines how grippy it can be. Using BF Goodrich for the time being. it's very grippy.

205/60/15 is taller. so your speedo will overread. meaning you'll be going faster than what the speedo indicates.

Fabian, so does 205/55/15 tyres available in the market? Thanx for sharing buddy. :) The reason i want wider tyres for the rear is to make it more ganas & grippy for my E30. The 195 width looked kinda small for my car now........ perhaps maybe bcoz of the original height of my E30?

As for the fronts, i'll stick to 195/60 size. Yup, rubber compound on the tyres makes a big difference on its grips. I still recalled that my dad changed the tyres to Falken ZE512 for the old set of bottlecaps rims & then, when he purchased the set of BSA wheels....... he changed all 4 tyres to Michelin & man, it grip like UHU gluestick la.

205/55/15 is available but is more expensive. I have been using 195/60/15 for road n track, it's adequate. wider tyres would sip slightly more fuel and oso easier to aquaplane in the wet. And my steering is heavy enuf wit the 195.

I think the small investment in a sump guard makes a lot of sense.

Fabian - your sump guard is now installed under my M20! :D

running on 205/50/15. i dont have and issue with my oil sump, but i ALWAYS scrape my center box going over a bump. CHEH! need to change tyres lo

even with the correct tyre size 205/55/15, my centre box scraps on SOME humps but that's ok........cos it's a non critical item compared to a sump!

just weld titanium skid plates - LOL.....or go slow and let it scrap S_L_O_W_L_Y......(only one bump at work actually & the mas one...)

sure, why not.........if solving the scrapping is your priority but it was there for a reason in the 1st place.

what for? - I dunno-lar....

erm..
nice topic..

hi..
im a newcomer.. :D

mine using 205/50 or 55(?)/16 for front..
and 205/60/16 for rear..

and somebody wants to buy my sportrim..
so, i think i want to change for 17"..
any opinion or suggestion..?

I using 16" alloy with michelin PS 205/50 front and 225/45 rear. Lowered with H&R spring with Bilstein B8 absorbers. The best is to get the custom aluminium oil sump guard from Fabian to protect your fragile oil sump.
