Attention all E30 drivers. It's alarming to hear from fella E30 owners (lovers) with cracked oil sump problem. Perhaps it's time to double check on the tyre size that u are using.Maybe u are running undersized tyres causing the car to sit lower than it shud be. for 14" rims, the correct size shud be 195/65/14 but due to the fact that this size is next to impossible to find here, the next best sizes are 195/60/14 and 185/65/14.For 15" rims, shud be using 195/60/15 and 205/55/15.... For 16" rims, shud be 205/50/16....

yes Fab, I broke my oil-sump twice as the matter of fact. Well I'm guessing it's not the size of rims or tires but the problem exist only when one lowers the car with lowering springs etc.

ANyway, now i'm more confident on KL roads after switching my springs back to standard.

Juz my too-sense.

I've been running around with lowered springs for quite a while without my sump guard and face no problem..

Using undersized tyres can lower the car by as much as 1 inch...

Fabianyee, I have been all the while using 195/60/14 with all standard springs and so far I am ok no damage to my sump, never thought of lowering my car as with this height also on bumps with passanger I do hit my centre exhaust box.

so far no issues but then maybe I have the correct tyre sizes....

if you drive like a rally driver, then sure asking for trouble......and yes, sometimes when your absorbers/spring too soft that can also happen....

thanks for the info Fabian.will check my tyre sizes. I've cracked my oil sump twice too. :(

well i too broke my sump twice n undergoing a major over-hault at the momment....so desided to use std springs n really have to look forward for the tyres....sakit sakit

Mine are the wrong size....

Am currently on Mtech springs
and Koni adjustables

Front is 195/55/15
Rear is 205/50/15

Went for the looks rather than the correct specs!

wow which part of KL, u guys stay? I live& drive around SS7, Mayang, TTDI, DJ, DU, Ldp, Hartamas and so far am "lucky". The occassion drive to KL aslo ok...

tell me where these killer bumps or lubangs are!!!

Jules i also hail from kj...but trust me even the bumps in kj i can lepas...my last incident was going over a man-hole near the carltex by the side of the EON glenmarie.....my 1st one was at bangsar in front of pelita...f*** this new bumps they built there....not like anyone can speed in tht road n they built the bump like asthough doing ur bukit test in jpj....so to all u guys with low riders plz beware when u enter bangsar in front of McD there is one n the other in front of pelita.....

ok thanks....

since we talk abt KJ area - the one beside the MAS training centre is high.....which all of you who frequent Showru will know....I scrap my centre box there on my old car...at any speed.

Cheers!

I was running eibachs and 205/50/16 on my m40 for over 3 years and never had any sump clearance problems.

Now with bilsteins(springs and abs) even better clearance.

Keep it simple, if you see a speed bump, use the brake pedal lar........

I'm running TOTALLY out of specs! F 205/45/17 R 215/45/17..
Lowered with Eibachs & Bilstein Black.. So far, nothing yet.. running all over KL.. to Kelantan.. to Penang .. to JB.. to Perak.. just like Kevs said.. if you see a speed bump, use the brake pedal lar........

100% agree with u guys on the brake pedal...but how about new bumps on old roads frequently traveled n no signs as well as unpainted bump...matilah....sigh.....(still cursing the DBKL n MPPJ )....they should have standard bump hights....not one high one low n some like bukit....dont u guys agree on tht...
