my e30 had some free play on steering, can it be adjust???plz help me, i feel difficult to control the car when in high speed :(

check ur lower control arm bushes and also the steering coupling (the one next to the exhaust manifold) the rubber bush may have 'expired'. One of the standard wear and tear items.

Somemore want to upgrade to 17" rims??? Max I'd go is 16".

I recently had a 'free play' prob myself....

Steering wheel has some 'give' or 'free play' either side of about '10 minutes past 12' or '10 minutes to 12' positions..... fix? steering coupling (rubber thingy).... after that steering nice and tight and easy to maintain staright ahead position

yes.....it's the rubber thingy!

I once drove a Famous FORUMERS exotic E30....I swear it was like flying an aeroplane........I had to correct the steering all the time, on the straights!

Scary!

THANKS RIZAL, WILL TRY TO ASK MY FOREMAN TO CHECK IT OUT, BUT HOW MUCH IT ACTUALLY COST????
I SCARE PEOPLE WILL CUT MY HEAD. :D

The rubber bush is shown as item no.3 in the picture. I had mine replaced last month, & cost me RM70 (inclusive parts & labour).

me replaced the whole thing. not only the rubber. cost me RM300 including the labour. the mech said at that time the new one cost about RM500. since i've had a bad steering control, vibration + guk guk + free play, i've changed the whole thing. dunno if RM300 is too much..

Simple solution is to upgrade to E36 rack. He he h eh he. I hv done it liao & the steering feels like a newer car(E36 mar). The E30 basically will have freeplay. Just how much oni.

2cents, mine changed due 2 reasons.. steering coupling all gone :( and the other, my rack was leaking like mad.. to repair/change will cost me RM1450.. so by doing the conversion.. i get better upgrade and cost me Rm1300 :p
