Hello guys/gals/sifus,Need some diagnostic advise.I'm owning a E30 318i (1990). Bought it 5th hand in 2005.Problem: whenever steering wheel is turned to the maximum clockwise or anti-clockwise, there will be a loud noise coming from the base of the steering (something like the sound when you rub the rims of a wine glass with a wet finger).Checked with M1 (Kayu Ara) about a year ago, said need to change steering rack/column.Meanwhile still living with the noise. :pSC

can be the following items
1. power steering pump
2. oil level low
3. hoses leaking
4. belt loose
5. rack oil seals kaput.

usually, it's the pump that's cocks up..

it is advisable not to fully turned the steering wheel to the max as it will wear out the steering rack faster.

change your power steering fluid
with age and oxidation fluid loses its properties and pressure builtup will cause degradation in lubrication and tensility of the oil molecules

make sure the oil from the rack is also drained out
