Hi guys,I know this might be asked somewhere in this forum before, found a few thread but not sure if my problem is similiar to them. This morning when i steer my car, there is a noise. i don;t know how to describe the noise, its not very loud and not very soft also. it only happens when i steer the car left or right. when i drive it on a straight road, no sound. Any ideas?

Power steering oil low? Better check soon otherwise if your steering pump goes kaput its $$$$

I'm guessing its like a metallic grumbling sound

okok will check the fluid level asap. something like a DC motor noise...

Turn right turn left noise sound, check the steering oil level, i experienced once, hose leak.

Sometimes even though power steering fluid is sufficient, the noise is from the power steering pump. Price of power steering pump (ori LUK brand) RM850 from Bomin as I replaced mine 2 years ago. If you do replaced the new pump, please also replace the fuild reservior cum filter at RM 80.00.

thanks for the tips guys...i managed to fix the problem by replacing the steering fluid.
btw the mechanic mention that the hose also need replacement..it have 4 hose and each cost Rm250..
but i did not replace as want to seek some opinion first...any idea?

Mika,

I believe that power steering fluid is leaking from one or two of the 4 hoses and your mechanic just top-up the steering fluid as a temporary solution. The 4 hoses are high pressure hoses and are rarther expensive. Usually the leak is at the neck of the alluiminium connectors. To save some cost, your can ask your mechanic to send the leaking hose/s to a engineering workshop and have the connectors replaced. Some mechanic won't do it as they rather ask you to buy new hoses.

Usually the leak occur at the joint between reservoir and pressure hose at the bottom. As the hose gets older, it becomes hard and loose. The trick is to cut about 1/2 inches of the hose and use a new clip/clamp (few ringgit only from Bav Auto -as the old one is not reuseable)
