The woofer sound were a bit distorted for my rear and front speakers.Open it up and found the foam surround for the speaker were corroded and breaking into pieces. This was due to aging similar to the roof cloth of our rideBought a replacement 1 speaker from BA for around RM180 for testing (could be less) as shown below.Replaced the speaker and test it. Found that the bass was lacking after the new speaker was installed.Investigate further on the lack of bass and found that the original speaker were rated at 2 ohms instead4 ohms. :banghead: Google a bit and found that there are some website that sell the foam surround for the speaker. One place was simply speaker which sell it plus load of information on DIY.order the part for about RM112 for 2 pieces, glue and instruction manual. This is what I got in the mail after 2 weeks of waiting..Did the DIY for the rear speakers. After replacing, the bass sound is so much better. Here is a picture of both the speakers after the foam surround is replaced.Note: the foam was slightly bigger and have to trim a bit. Z4 speaker is slightly different from E46 speakers.Since my front speakers is also damaged, I decided to search for a alternative and look for a generic foam replacement.Found another place uneeksupply. The foam dimension advertise meet to the existing speaker dimension.Foam Surround specificationAs the price was relative cheaper, I decide to order 2 sets in order to save on some shipping cost. The package came after 10 days. On checking, found that the outer dimension is actually 158mm instead of 156mm.I have to trim about 2 mm off the foam in order to fit it properly. Did not buy the extra glue as the glue from simply speaker is enough for the repair of 8 speakers.Note:The refoaming take practice. I have to redo one of the speaker as I did not centre the foam properly. The sound was horrible when I test it. So a cheap alternative to better sound other than replacing the original speaker is to refoam it.

Great sharing this jarence. Wished I found out much earlier when I am replacing all of my speakers due to the disintegrated foam surround issue.

wingzee, what type of speakers did you replace the old speakers and how much did you pay for them.

I bought mine from AB but found the speaker to be different resistance.

Jarence, replaced my fronts with Dominations ES61 Exzibit 6.5" 2-way Component Set (diameter fits nicely but not the huge long magnet hence modifications to door panels need to be made) and rear speakerboard ones were replaced with Macrom M3C.61 MkII 6.25" 2-way Coaxial Speakers (fits nicely without any modifications). About RM1.8k all together.

Did not check the resistance for both sets when got them but they do sound much better than the stock ones.

Jarance, the original speaker were rated at 2 ohms instead 4 ohms was your rear or front speaker ?

Alex, both front and rear woofers are 2 ohms.
I have 10 speakers for my ride.
3 speaker for the front x 2, 1 speaker for the rear door x 2 and 2 speaker on the rear dashboard.

This was my extra speaker left in my store room when i do retrofit my rear sun blind last time. Btw the resistance are 4 ohm made from Germany bro..

I found another generic repair kit from simply speaker which is more suitable for the E46 speaker.
However, price is not so cheap.

What is the total speakers you have in your car?
According to BMW, there are 3 versions
1. Normal - 6 speakers
2. Hi-fi - 10 speakers
3. Top Hi-fi Harman Kardon - 12 speakers

Don't know lar..bro lol... let me check and revert you later. If not mistaken 4 x 4doors, 2 at the rear parcel and 2 tweeter on dashboard right ? :burnout:

they used to sell those in Pasar road...

yeah, they still do. Some of the shop also do the refoam for you. but the problem is they cater for the more known brand like JBL, Vega etc.
