After sending my car in for service & to check the camshaft, they returned it with a rattling sound coming from the dashboard area... sent it back telling them it is from the dashboard, they insulated the door instead *sigh* so, the rattling noise was still there. I tried adjusting the steering, the noise went away & came back again. Sent it in again for SC to check, keeping my fingers crossed now.

Anyone encountered the same rattling noise?

It's really irritating as sometimes it rattles louder than the radio!

yes, it is really disappointing. just got my car back, still rattling and now after they insulated the steering column there's a buzzing sound too. Tried pressing down on certain areas of the dashboard hoping to find where the noise is coming from but no luck... what a bummer!

Sometimes the dealer will make things worse when they open up here and there to do troubleshooting but those niggling issues can be solved with time...yes a lot of time. I has such a case with my car - various sounds coming from the car and it took them weeks to solve it after I sent it in for a few times. Just make sure you go out on a test drive with the technician to demo the issues to him and do request for a senior tech as you are bringing it in again for troubleshooting.

One thing to check is your tyre pressure. High pressure will result in a harder ride = more vibrations and sounds throughout the car.

thanks for the tips, seancorr, btw, which SC solved the problem for you?
i'm skeptical sending it back again now that hey returned it to me with more noise...

FYI I had Quill do the honours of tearing my car apart to find the various problems. Sakit hati to see that happen but can't do anything about it. It took a lot of time and small mistakes were made in the process but the outcome is that all problems were settled and that is what I want in the end. I just pray that BMW Malaysia is reading these threads online and taking note of the issues we owners/customers are facing.

can't agree more, i hope their antennaes are up to receive discussions on these quality issues that it is causing their customers a lot of time and inconvenience having to send the car in many times and wait for days without real solutions. can't believe such a renowned brand is giving me these nightmares, speechless...

BMW very famous for this...when I was still schooling I've already been hearing of horror stories from owners of cars in this marque...much lesser from the other well known German brand so you can imagine how many years later the story is still the same lol!

The dashboard of my 328 M Sport has been rattling since hitting 3,000km on the clock some 10 months ago. Not since my Proton Saga some 25 years ago have I encountered something like this. To find this kind of issue in the most expensive car I have owned to date is very disappointing. The service center says the only option is to strip-out the entire dashboard to find the source of the rattling and I cannot afford to be without my ride for up to a week. Extremely frustrating!

Hey esswhy13,

Ask your sc to arrange a courtesy car for you to use. Explain to them that you do not have any car to use. Bite your tongue and be nice. All the best!

Can be solved....with a lot of time and visits. It took me 3 visits and a total time in the workshop of over a month and finally the noise is gone and for the time it was in there I had a courtesy car to use so no complains...only issue is for the times it went in confirm got interior scratches so better inspect upon delivery and claim for those scratches.

FYI mine ain't rattling but vibration noise from the steering column area and yes they will rip apart your entire dashboard to find the problem hence the interior damage.

It has been a couple of months since then and so far no issues and I have to thank Quill for the time and effort taken to fix it even though the fault came from the poor QC in the factory.

Just like to report back and share...after 18 months of frustration I have finally nailed down the problem. All this while it was difficult to pinpoint the source of the rattling while keeping an eye on the road and the trips to the SC was utterly a waste of time - they never did solve the problem for me. I was so damn sure the noise was coming from inside the air-cond vents.

Until one day I was stuck motionless in traffic for the longest time and having to content with an annoying loud rumbling exhaust from a souped-up Perdana that was right next to me. The rattling in my car grew louder in tandem with the rumbling Perdana. It made my blood boiled...and I started touching and feeling every part of the dashboard area to search for loose parts. And then I found it - the rattling wasn't from the dashboard...it was from the rear-view mirror holder!!!

There's a tiny 0.5-1.0mm gap where it's supposed to sit flushed with the windshield. This is the source of the frustrating and agonising rattle. A 15-min DIY job with tape and foam solved 99% of the problem..not perfect but a major relieve. Next item...front suspension knocking sound...but that's different story.

BMW Malaysia...are you listening?? RearVu2.jpg

damn....pretty sure u were annoyed when u found out...and u dealt with it for 18 months...wow...anyways congrats for solving the problem...

Wow that's rare indeed...make sure you bring it back to the dealer to have them properly rectify it since your car is still under warranty.

Have had a rattle that's been driving me crazy for more than a year from the front drivers door...after thorough CSI checking by yours truly found the lock stub is rattling against its fitting...wife's E90 is 4 years old rattle free...sigh

Sometimes wonder whether is it good to visit the forums here :67:..... all these really giving me the scary thoughts about going ahead for my purchase. hard earned money ..... even reading forumers post make me sakit hati

Well some says that there are many satisfied owners out there only problems one come to forum to complain.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hope mine will be okay..... :63:

My car was a problematic one but thanks to the hard working SC staff the car runs like a gem now =]]] Took them some time to solve it though - 1 month+

yup my f30 got the rattling sound after sending to glenmarie sc, they told me to send it back and check but i still haven't got the time to visit them.

i'm so glad that i found this topic which is common, cause before that i was thinking, why BMW the same rattling sounds like local cars?

May I ask why and what cause the rattling sound?

as what i told Alan Harris... the Local assembled cars are well design.. poorly built!!

I have driven enough BMWs to tell when one is not put together properly...

AGAIN.. BMW.... ARE YOU LISTENING??
