Hi everyone,Was wondering if it is possible to repair/touch up damaged OEM rims. I was driving in KL on Sunday & accidentally hit the concrete curb at only 60kmh, what happened was that a small part of the rim's edge got chipped off. I am surprised at how soft the OEM rims are, i thought they would be a lot stronger. I can't afford to change the rims, is there somewhere that can repair or touch up such a damage?

wat is the size & ur location?

my friend's shop located at kepong

I go to a place called Hup Soon which is very near AB, Segambut. Basically, head towards AB Segambut and after passing it on the right, follow the road as it curves right. Go straight a bit more and you should see shophouses on your right including a Falken signboard on a corner unit, which is Hup Soon. The job only takes an hour plus for one rim. It cost about RM30 for touch-up and RM40 for balancing, so total of RM70 for one rim.

Do be wary though, the paint is usually wet and needs to dry for 12 to 24 hours. So, don't wash your car immediately after re-installation.

If not wrong all tyre shops got provide this service. They sub-contract it out anyway. Just go to your regular tyre shop and enquire.

True, but these workshops have to send your rims to the specialist and might take a whole day before you get your rims back. If you go direct, then all's done in an hour or so and you also get to check on workmanship.

True also.. Many years back I did mine in Kuchai Lama.. too long ago la.. but that was lousy. What they did was the grind the rest off to make the lip even.. what a bummer.. :(

Well you should know that there are 2 types of REfurbishing -

a. just sand down and add a layer of filler/putty and then sand down again, prime and spray 1K then 2K;

b. welding done to the rashes, ground down, sanded, primed then 2K.

The prices are 2-dimensional; one [a] cheap'n'fast while the other is time consuming and lasting. You decide which and how long you want the wheels to last....then budget your operasi. If you're keeping the bimmer then go for the welding work or else take the botox one and sell the car.
'Nuff said.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Mine is 17inch (159's i think, the ones that came with the 320SE late last year). I'll check out the one near AB Segambut. Cannot tahan everytime I see my rims....breaks my heart.

I took mine to Hup Soon too. They weld, sandblast and bake their rims. That's the proper way of refurbishing rims.

T7,
how much did it cost you to refurb your 4/5 rims @HS?
Let's know what ballpark figures we're gonna spend
on our rims.
Maneee thanks!

bro, how much does it cost u? u have the full address of the shop? how long does it take to refurbish one rim? u waited there or they give u temporary spare tyre?

Straighten - RM50 per wheel
Paint and machine lip - RM70 per wheel
That's for 15". Price wise it's a little bit on the high side but the quality is there.

The shop is located nearby AB Segambut. Lets say AB Segambut is on your right; you go straight and go through a curve. Go straight a little bit more and you will see a tire shop with Falken signboard. That's the shop.

I had 3 wheels straighten = RM150, 4 wheels painted and machine lips = RM280. Total RM430

Went to Heap Soon at AB on Wed evening for a look see. Basically the guy knows what he's talking about, and to refurbish my 1 damaged rim will take him 1 full day. Basically told me to leave the rim there in the morning (will give a replacement rim) and collect in the evening. The area does look a bit dodgy though, with forklifts and heavy vehicles all over the place, need to drive carefully. I think I will give them a try soon.

Tamade7,

Thanks for refeshing my memory of this place....my gurus in detailing - Elwine30 and Kevster recommended me this place many years back!

glad to see still going well and your rim very nicely done.

Thanks for sharing price info....well worth the $$

hi guys, sorry to ask this but do you guys know how to get to the shop from sri hartamas?..thanks again

from sri hartamas, head towards the Jalan Duta roundabout. Then go towards the Segambut/Jalan Ipoh exit.
Once in, immediately take a left and then make a right at the traffic light (you'll pass Zender Motor Works and GBH Bathroom). Go straight for about 100 meters, make a left. You'll pass by AB Segambut on your right. Keep on going for about 1/2 km-1 km and you'll see the corner-lot shop on your right. That's Heap Soon.
