aoch ... I would be satisfied with an extra 30-40. That will suffice.

LOL...that's what everyone first says when they start modding...I'll be satisfied with xxx bhp...but the truth is we are never satisfied...

fandango ... no la, 30-40 is enough for this car, 100 more is useless because you want something lower and handles much better for more HP. Hehehehee ... this is my weekend car only, I know its limitations.

ramsing ... waaaah ghee for better penetration huh? Okay ... will ensure I get the Superman colours and also cotton undies. :)

the N52B25 is supposedly running 216hp at crank.. to have another 30-40whp would bring it above 100hp/liter staying NA and assuming retaining same engine capacity.
Not impossible but lots of work needs to be done.. high lift cams, lighter valvetrain, 1000rpm higher redline. lightened pistons, lightened crankshaft, lightened con rods, higher compression, dual bank injection. that's like building a semi race engine aledi...

sell the car and get the 335i. end of story..

Unless you have a workshop and make it a challenge to do it yourself.

turbo only la

Try below:-

1) Platinum or Iridium spark plug
2) Sport drop in air filter ie K&N
3) Sport muffler or exhaust
4) Remap or tuning by reputable tuner

The rest please upgrade your handling and brake department. Power is nothing without control

IM ... checked a lot recently. The engine is maxed out. Cannot push past 25HP at the best. Average is about 15-18 WHP. Do you think 15-18WHP will make much difference on a 1,500 kg car? Of course the remap if properly done will smoothen out the dead spots on low RPM and/or make the mid range more responsive.

i thought of stroker kit recently and was told its as good as changing out the engine. and it will cost something like 30K to do it. I gave up since my engine is still running like new and in top shape. Not worth the money, also it might create more problems down the road....i will save up for another car that can give me peace of mind...

Don't get too obsessed with max hp, what's more important is the torque curve. no point having 30hp extra but only useable at 6000rpm or higher.
Flattening the torque curve gives the engine more useable driving flexibility. So when shopping for remaps, don't just look at the peak power. look also at the torque curve. Carroll Shelby once said: "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races"

15 to 20hp is good enuff. More than that I rather change car. Magnesium engine already managed to get 218hp from 2.5cc engine compare to aluminium M54 which churn 191hp for 2.5cc. Like Fabian said torque curve is important. Try Rhommel Tuning as per link http://romtuning.com/
HP craze is always expensive for NA engine. The fastest way would be induction ie supercharge or turbocharge for more HP & NM.
My advice if you are keeping the car is to maintain it well to make sure it as good as new car for longer time and the list to do as mentioned in earlier post. If not just change to 330, 335, 530 or 740
