Coolant leak somewhere

Hi all expect, my E39 recently always prompt me to check coolant. This few days i top up 1.5l of water everyday. I found no leak but the coolant level will drop the next morning even i'm not driving. Anyone have any idea where the coolant go?

bro, better get your car checked fast. you don't want to have overheating issues in the middle of a traffic jam. check the water flange (front and back)

y not do a pressure test, its simple and fast. if not, ask your mechanic to hoist your car and check for the blue colour stain, coz after leaking and dry, definately got mark, unless is at the flange behind your engine then u cant see

After third days of top up, finally my babe overheated... my machenic perform pressure test found thermostat housing & water pump leak... cost me RM620... haih... btw, thanks for all sifu's advice...

U are lucky oledi for RM620 but not the whole engine kaput.

Ya... very lucky as told by my machenic as well. The water pump pulley loose as well. If not fix on time, it might damage the fan & the radiator when break...

the pressure test is the best measure to diagnose frequent water shortages in the radiator. Happened to me also although had just replaced my radiator before that. The test showed the new radiator to be leaking. First Division replaced the radiator also.

hi all sifus,

just want to check if the coolant in the expansion tank do drop after filling to the brim? Mine drops to around the level of the "shinny ring" after 1 1/2 months or about 3000 km. is this normal or is there a leak somewhere?

previously, the level dropped to that level after 1 week after a change of radiator and my mech did a pressure test and found a tiny leak at the brand new radiator.

mine is a E39 525 '01.

I believe you've replaced your new radiator to another one already.

Yes of course, if you fill to the brim, after running around, there level will drop close to the MAX level (if not slightly higher).

If it drops to the "ring", you've got yourself a leak. Common places to check for leak is,

1. thermostat
2. waterpump
3. hoses

tx. i have literally changed all there is to the cooling system. now have to monitor further.

The other thing to check is the Heater core. It is under the AC cooling coil. When it leaks you can see it unless you remove it. I had water dissapering from my radiotor thru my heater core. Notice the coolant on the core

I manage to get a very good used heater core for RM250. I only discovered this when i change my AC cooling coil. I had to also change my Heater Valve. Brand new heater core RM750, Heater Valve RM550
