hi guys :D i'm really glad to join this site and found so many malaysian bimmer owner around here. hope to get more infos from you guys out there.let me intro myself abit here. i've always been a Japanese performance machine fan and i've driven gtrs well over powered compared to the stock E46 M3. but i guess i'm just turning to a more matured state now  that somehow i started looking at E46 M3. power is not so much of the need that i'm looking into recently but i think M3 has got the stable and performance identities well balanced.although is a bit more expensive to buy one but i really hope is worhty to make the purchase.well, i'm currently having a R33 & a R34 with me at home. i'm a huge fan of GTR myself but i'm really letting go my R33 for a E46 M3 this time. i hope i don make the wrong decision. i just need some of the questions below answered before i would even dare to go for a test drive. i know a test drive would have proven everything but infos from you guys would be much much appreciated.1) what should the market price be for a yr02 or yr03 M3?...as you guys can see the 2units advertised in motor trader, they are priced at 350k and 400k. are they ok? i mean pricing wise.2) Is SMG tranny providing that "immediate" effect in shifting? would really love it if they are. how durable or reliable are they if i would really like to have some 'rough time with it?...no floming please... 3) is it hard to get a Manual tranny M3 in malaysia?4) would you compare the handling of the E46 M3 to any of the japanese make?5) the most important point....is it true you get more chicks' attention with M3 then a GTR?? :D (just kidding)any of your infos would be much much appreciated guys. thanks in advance ya. cheers

Hey, welcome to the club.

Where's all the E46 sifus? Calling The Necessary and chester... racun needed here...

Welcome, Tony. It'll be great to hear your driving impression vs. GTRs once you've had the chance to test the M.

guys,

one more question, i know those that i asked not yet answered but really..one more..what's the diff btw SMG and SMG2?

anyway, this is my current ride..hehe,..

Hope you're not giving up your GTRs after watching Initial D. Hahahah...just kidding. E46 M3 handling and power is definitely more refined.

Hi Tony, welcome to the club. Thats a neat GTR. Sorry, am not pro in M3 therefore no comment but one thing, i dont think driving a M3 will dissapoint you in anyway as compare to your GTR ;)

Btw, is that taken in Alor Star? Considering that plate, i think i've seen you burning the streets. Of course i could be mistaken.

Cheers,
Jacky

bro, the chics don't know nuts and don't give a damn about an M3 or a GTR.
They only know the difference between a Nissan and a
BM-double you :nyehehe:

Tony,

I suggest you check out the car first, waiting for a sourceful reply here for M3 will take a while as not many own this car i am sure,at least the guys i knew dont. (No offence guys :) ) Therefore, go try out the car or get a mag with the m3 review.

Another way, maybe try PM the important people here with extra ordinary BMW knowledge :) It will be faster i think.

Anyway, Tony if you are familiar with AStar, there is a M3 in Taman Golf, maybe you know that guy? He also owns a Lamborghini Diablo, Porsche 911 Turbo, and a 628 e24.

regards

Hey there Tony, I currently drive an '02 e46 M3 SMG2, and I'll try to answer your questions.

1. I think most good condition e46 M3s (SMGs, Manuals will probably be around RM30k cheaper, I think) will come in around that price range. Also you should be looking at low milers, don't think most people will put more than 15k km/year on an M3, as it'll most likely be their second car, like mine.

2. It's not "immediate", "immediate", but IT IS pretty darn quick! Much quicker than any human will EVER be able to shift, and that's including M.Schumacher in his F1 Ferrari. There are 5 + 1 shift speeds to choose from, "+1" because the 6th is a "special" mode for when you have traction control "off" and are really feeling the need... the need for neck snapping shift times!

As for maintainance, as long as you don't "launch control" (something the manual can't do...) often (what's often? don't know.), it will present no problems. Mine and a friend's ones are fine.

3. Harder. Note; SMGs are widely accepeted to be THE choice when it comes to the e46 M3. The e46 M3 does not offer much potential when it comes to modding, unlike the e36 version. Hence, there is not much need for the extra "moddibility" of a manual. Yes, some might say that a manual provides more interaction... but trust me, when you're braking deep into a tight 3rd gear corner, downshifting 2/3 gears at a go with 2/3 taps of the left SMG pedal, hearing the engine being blipped perfectly with each down shift and sensing the car ram home into gear, tensing the attitude of the car, and then turning in smoothly towards the apex... you WILL KNOW you made the right choice.

4. Can't really comment here... all the performance cars I've had experience with were Contis. But... I *think* the e46 M3 handles brilliantly! Very well balanced and very adjustable, even on/beyond the limit.

5. Can't say, but I guess we could always run a side by side comparison in front of Asian Heritage Row? Hahaha.

BTW, I am considering selling my baby. PM me for details.

Anyways, hope I helped. Good luck in your hunt, I really don't think you'll be dissapointed trading in the R33 for the M, after all you still have the '34 when have the need for speed...!

A lot.

But, you don't have to worry 'bout the nitty gritty because ALL e46 M3 SMGs are SMG2s.

eujax,

ya..in fact, there are now 2 M3s around in Tmn. Golf already.. thanks for your reply anyway.

The Necessary,
cool answers from you. gald to know so much more about an M3 now. PM you soon. thanks a mil'.

Hi Tony,

I sold my R32 GTS-4 (very rare here and well handling) after 7 years and get the E32 right now. I'm not kind of 250hp .....

I test drive E36 - 328 especially suck compare to R32.Can bet them anytime at corner.
I test drive E46 - as above and plastic ! plus don't have money.
So, I stay away from 3 series.

I test drive E34 - neat and good interior quality.
I test drive E32 - just enough torque and beat most all above.

You want power ,both M3 and GTR can give you but I ask you to stay with GTR ....

Girl, you want they look at your power or car power ?

try ask 535i , even never meet him but I will look for that machine if switch to German.

German not always good , believe me !

iqlima,
hi there, nice to know that u drove skyline b4 too...ya, i agree with what you stated. my mom used to drive the E36 318i, the performance...no comments :( ..but then again, that's for my mum i guess...
thanks for your kind reply, hope you got the BMW that you like now mate...

tyke,
hehehhe..i think that would be perfect if i can own all of them. i recently bought another car which is rather similar to the 1969 GTR KPGC10 right here at my home town, its a DATSUN P510 SSS and that cost me only 8K.. :D ..i really hope the Ms' from BMW gives fair share of :beaten: when it comes to handling and power delivery relatively to the GTRs. but really, a stock GTR will not be a match for a stock M3 i guess...just me though..

but the again NISSAN vs BMW...you know what you know...

hey dude, yeah it quite a cool car too the gtr kpg c10.
thts like an icon in its own right too.can still hold its own i say!

its not fair to compare the bmw vs the nissan though as both brands hav their respective traits which has made thm as famous as they r now.with the R series u got killer speed, fun factor and the urge to feel the boost..etc
and with the e46 m3,u got the comfort, speed, killer handling, attention grabber and also the fun factor....its a car tht can be driven at a sane speed in town, thn can be unleashed on the highway with glee!
:yahoo:

like i said, best of both worlds there mate!
