May I proposed to that we to have a stagger privilege for new CG and its compulsory for them to introduce prior to any access for other posting.

Yeap I concur with AS's suggestion. Newly registered accounts wil have to go through introduction at Newbies section and can only post after that. This will greatly reduce the amount of spams and junk accounts created.

Been loitering in plenty of forums all over the world and most forums practice this.

I guess just have to confirm whether the forum software can be configured to do that.

Personally I don't think that it should be the case. Why limit club guest from viewing anything else in the forum before joining.

Last time in another car forum when we did that, intake of new members dropped drastically around 80-90%.

Once that was removed, the numbers went back to normal.

Why that was the case, there were a lot of people who are perhaps new, unsure about what forums are and they enjoy going into forums as silent readers and may not even sign up with an account. Frankly I do the same with overseas forums such as E90post and BimmerForums. The moment you restrict view and access, I personally think that it is a very elitist way of thinking.

A compromise is that you left everyone have access to view all posts, etc..etc.. but if they want to post a topic or a reply, at least set it that they are required to do an introduction first before being able to do it.

To counter junk accounts, in my previous forum, set it to have a question. A very simple question which bots will not be able to answer was "Smelly fruit in Malaysia" which everyone human will know it is a human.

That additional step to answer a question, reduced about 98% of bot and junk/spam accounts created.

The idea to allow them to read the general thread is good but they should register and be approved prior to any posting.

Registration to posting has already been set as a default for all forum rules.

Why do you want to impose another layer of approval? I personally believe that adding more layers of control puts more people off.

- Does the club have the man power to check into the forum day after day to see the lists of approvals required?
- While waiting for approval, will you lose new members? Some people just can't be bothered to wait and then you will lose new members.
- Will adding another layer of controls help with the forum to generate more content, have an open talk and be open to all, not just only regular posters? Why aren't these controls in forums who are hugely popular with thousands of readers and posters?

You do have a point there bro, what I suggest are just my recommendation for CM to consider. Am sure you are tired with all the spammer and bots in this forum.

Good point Mavik :dancing2:

Only way to really cut down spam bots will be during registration they answer a question or key in the code or words shown. This intro intro does nothing much la.

When faced with spam bots we used to set forum registration where the admin will approve before they can post. More work but cuts down on the prob by a lot

additionally why not add in credit card confirmation like paypal...more secure...just a suggestion also...keke
