Control Armed Bushes Always Broken

Meyle has the reputation of longer lasting compared to the rest..but for mine, the half of the bush was hanging outside the bracket, as a result, the car was not stable at high speed and pulls either to the left or right depending on road contour when braking. Slightly dissapointed as when I changed my PU bush to meyle upon the recommendation by the mechanic, the mechanic assured me that if there anything wrong with the bushes, they will take responsibility. When I called them, they said see how first!!! Needless to say the response was not that encouraging...

I just changed from my PU bushes to Lemforder bush today. The PU bushes that came with the car had been there for about a year and showed no signs of degrading. Lasting they were! But...and this is a big but...they were quite stiff, and harsh.

So its a 3 way trade off between durability, comfort, and cost. For me, i felt so much more comfortable with the Lemforder bushes. The car rode better, was less harsh, and even the engine felt smoother. There was a bit more roll for sure, but nothing dramatic. If anything, it made the car feels more natural and balanced. Steering feel felt less stiff and more natural as well. And surprisingly, i got decent steering feedback with them. The PUs gave even more steering feedback, but the feedback was drowned by the increased vibration that the PUs translate to the car. So, while there is a slight lost in steering directness & feedback with the Lemforders, it gains in purity of feedback. I am a happy man.

If the cost to having this level of balance is a pair of bushes that cost RM350 (labour included) and a lifespan of 30k km (thats what M-Speed's Ah Meng told me), i would gladly have them over the more lasting but ultimately stiffer and harsher PUs.

Care to share which workshops do you normally visit? John from Bomin recommended SuperPro PU while Optimum suggested Meyle. Would give the local made ones a try for the next replacement.

The trusted and usual workshop is DU Auto at Damansara Uptwon. Same row with Brother Peter. The boss is ah weng. Although they attend to other car makes, ah weng is knowledgeable in BMW. Was told he was from Auto bavaria previously.

DU Auto charges you min RM50 just to check on your car. If you send to your own mech, i believe no charge.

Crymson,

It is all about mechanic and customer relationship. Sometimes, DU Auto doesnt even charge me for small repairs as I have been with them for a long time. In fact, I buy and sel cars quite often and each time I send a potential buy to them, they will do a thorough check for free of charge. that would include the potential buy from some of my close friends too. I never demand but I guess they also pandai pandai la..lol

For example, they spent the whole saturday from 10 am to 6 pm to attend to my crazy instructions. Installing lower arms, removing them, replacing with another brand, then matching the control arm bush from different makes and each time, I have to check the caster measurement before test driving the car...well..they charged me RM100 for labour!!

So for me personally, they are good and reasonable...

It's suppose not to be have such feel bro since Meyle was the quality brand. Will it be others cause your car feel shaky when you apply brakes.

wingzee,

does it pull to one side when u brake? If yes, take a look at the bush again. If it is cracked or hald way out of the casing/bracket, let me know cause mine had the same problem and both of us can try to make a claim...

Mine doesn't pull to one side when braking but my alignment is always out. Already did twice at MPS (2nd time FOC). The last one was less than 2 weeks ago and now it's out again. May bring over my car to Optimum for checking.

Where did you replaced yours, advocates?

for Meyle, I did it at Optimum. I was complaining about some suspension squeeks and when I return to pick my car, I found out they have installed the meyle in place of my brand new super pro bush. Loved the super pro bush but since it causes squeeks, i accepted the meyle only to discover that the bush was half out of the casing/bracket within two weeks!

Ouch! What did Optimum did to rectify the issue? Were they surprised? To be honest I am seriously contemplating a PU bush. Albeit being tid bit harsh at least it last. Gonna get my Meyle checked next week.

Well, I called them to ask whether I can claim. they did asked me to send my car over but as far as my request to claim for the defective bush, they just said they will try. Sounded to me as if they were quite reluctant but I may have prejudged them..so I went to my usual mechanic to change mine to the original bush, which I know wont last long.. . If U want, u may consider my PU Bush. Used only for two weeks. If not happy, you can return to me. If happy, then only pay..:) but all PU Bush will squeek. However it will last much longer and u have a sharper steering response. For some, they find a tad harsher ride but for me just nice.

Was quite surprised as these bushes are actually made in Germany. How they could fail in such a short time frame just puzzles me.

I'll let you know once I got mine checked. Thanks! :)

I can felt metal-to-metal whenever pass through small holes or uneven road

Today sent my car for service, found out both control arm bush already broken, suprising it only last for less than a month. Review of Meyle consider quite a good quality as many of yours experienced it. Most probably mechanic quoted me meyle price but gave me other poor quality product. Will never go again!

Sorry to hear about the case happen to you bro. Maybe you can have a try at In power the bush i bought from them last me 2 years n so far so good.
