Hi Fellow D-I-Ys.Hope you can give me an insight into how to install my new aluminium brake pedals. I have done some research on it, from what i gather. First of all Im supposed to rip the rubber off the pedals. Is this easy to do? Just pull it off?Can someone tell me if i have to drill holes into the pedal for the screws? Do i?Thanks for any help... i always thought it was a simple task of bolting it on.Thanks thanks thanks....

Yeah, remove the original rubber off the pedals and drill 4 small holes.

Is anyone using the HAMANN Pedals? The screws are real short and they look like just screwing into the rubber. Not sure. Plus they are not the allen key type with a fixing bolt behind it.

Anyone with HAMANNs?

You MUST drill thru the metal to SAFELY secure the pedals........doing it on the rubber is well, not safe in my books - but it's your life, car....

try superglue-lar CABUT!

bro, just cabut the rubber from the brake pedal, easy only. then put your new hamann pedal in position on the brake, then use the drill to mark all the 4 holes, after marking put aside your hamann pedal first and drill until all the 4 holes go through the brake metal plate, then screw it, SCREWWWWWWWWW IT

wow more replies than i anticipated. Must be alot of people who have gone through this process of drilling.

Can someone tell me the size i should use. My pedals didnt come with instructions. Should the drill-ed hole be slightly smaller then the screw ?

Thanks again everyone. Wish me luck!

Should not DIY, just get it done else where. Really not an easy job. The pedal made from really hard material.

Hey guys,

If i was to chicken outta this DIY task, where should i go to get some experienced people to install this?

Thanks again....

mmmm, sure were some helpful advice, especially from Jules with his supa glue. Pure genius.

GreenGhost, just get it done at a shop, easy peasy. why:
1) drilling the steel pedal while lying in the footwell is a pain in the ass
2) Aligning the holes and getting sufficient light in there, another pain in the ass

Its actually very easy to get done, but it is time consuming.

Not quite! If pedal cover comes off as he is braking, it could result in injury and death of others.

Get it done at an accessories shop... They use power tools daily and probably less likely to make mistakes when it comes to drilling holes.

Just got an idea.

You guys think EPOXY glue will hold them for good? They might do the trick.

NO!!!!!!!

DO IT RIGHT!!!

YOU RISK NOT ONLY KILLING YOURSELF BUT ALSO OTHERS AROUND YOU AND YOUR CAR!!!

YOU DO NOT TAKE RISKS ON THINGS THAT CAN KILL!!

Hey dude,

It was only a suggestion, no need for all the Big and Red fonts isnt it. I think the point you are making is valid, but no need to explode like that la.

OK. I'll change it to blue. But I do hope you get my drift. I do not want anyone going through the experience of losing control of a car. It is an unnecessary risk.

I am sorry if my reaction shocked you, but safety is an extremely important subject to me.

It totally sucks being hit by another car through no fault of my own. Had that happen to me several years back.

ichiwan2, we old hands here when it comes to doing the rite thing....

and yes, you are VERY rite that he could just crash into someone after his pedals dropped off......sigh - I hope GreenGhost dun turn green at that moment....

and also, yes I know how it feels when ppl hit our beloved car(s)....buta buta!

Greenie - do the rite thing otherwise DUN BOTHER!

what Daniel said is true.. it's @#$* to drill it.. u need a metal drill bit, masking tape to mark the point of the drill hole and to ensure the drill does not slip, some trust washers, the screws come off easily cos of movement of your FEET !!
the accelrator pedal is the @#$% to screw.. need to get the bottom nut fitted is a #$%*.

btw, have fun..

im beginning to regret ever even thinking about getting them pedals and now i actually have it and dont really want to fit them anymore.

Btw people who have done it, is there anywhere on the pedals i should be careful not to drill through in particular the accelerator pedal?

Thanks

Just take it to your ICE installer.

They have the tools & know-how to install them for you.

Abut the gas pedal, don't mess with any of the moving parts, especially the kickdown assembly.
