Hey guys, When i look at my car from the rear, squatting down, the tires look somewhat like this.. /---------| It looks like the left tire has somewhat more negative camber (is that right?) than the right side. The thing is, i never got it adjusted. All i know was i was on my runflats and everytime i drove in the wet and sometimes in the dry, i feel as though my rear would swing abit or run abit esp thru puddles of water. So i thought the alignment was bad and the tires were bald. I got them changed and to add to it, i even changed to eibach springs. the springs were totally shit and im now back on my original BMW springs. But my alignment is out no matter what the tire store does to correct it and the car vibrates at higher speeds. I just noticed when i looked at my car from the rear that the tires were like that. What would cause it to be like that? Could it be the cause of my problems? Thanks alot for the responses in advance. :)

Bro you might want to try another tire shop and see what they have to say. I just got all my wheels balanced and aligned at MPS Auto in Sunway. They did a pretty good job.

ditto.. worth a try..

How is Goh Swee Hin in Glenmarie?

The big Pirelli one where AB/Audi/Porsche sends their cars for some alignment work or so i was led to believe..

Will definitely get it checked soon..

Has anyone ever had these symptoms before or can tell me what they are related to..

1. When driving, even when in the dry, sometimes when accelerating, the rear feels like it stepped out abit and this is even more apparent in the wet.

2. After the 3rd time doing alignment, still car runs to one side when i let go the steering.

3. At higher speeds, although the steering doesnt actually physically judder, i can feel juddering in the steering wheel..

One tire looks more cambered than another.

What could possibly be the problem?

Thanks for all the responses in advance guys..

jules: How often do you change tires? hehe.. :)

how many KM have you clocked your 525i?

i think you better send the car back to AB for checking.

The car now is currently at around 33,000 kms.

Alot of it is highway kms cause in the past 6 months, this car went to Penang once and Singapore 3 times..

Hehe.. Highways.. Thats where 5er's perform best.

ichiwan2: What are the symptoms of something going wrong with the rear bearings? And how do i go about checking them?

Cud be a number of things from what you described. The rear being disobedient cud be due to some worn bushes or arms or mountings, get the front suspension checked as well, sometimes worn front bushings can affect the rear.

The camber settings for the rear tyre is -2 deg (assuming e39) so you will see /-----\, better handling at the expense of tyre wear. I had mine pulled in to the max to save tyre (tyre expensive lor). Max. I cud get was -1.5 deg. The impact on handling was minimal for me (I think you'd have to drive at the limits to see a diff.)

I too wud recommend MPS in Sunway for alignment. There is a good and cheap mechanic there too, Motoren, on the row behind MPS somewhere in the middle, he can check and fix your suspension.

what have you done to your ride prior to the problem? changing out the sport spring only? or change rims?

had a customer at my dealer reported vibration detection at rear during highway speed, it got worst when speeding up. dealer took apart both the entire rear suspension and found nothing.

he had eibach spacer made in germany, lowered spring, 19"s on his 523i with Toyo T1R.

dealer suspect the spacer but tyre shop said these were made in germany with TUV cert.

finally, the culprits are the Toyo's. When replaced, vibrates no more.

this is the worst nitemare when you run aftermarket parts, problem arises dealer shoot at you and record every detail in their database. but, the times wasted on multiple trip here and there is agonising & frustrating.

so, should i mod my ride or not?

Spaceman: Turns out, im using Toyo T1R's!

I changed to Eibach ProKit lowered springs together with brand new Toyo T1R's to replace my runflats on the standard 18's.

Anyhow, should i just send my car to MPS or to AB back to check up?

you better had the tyre shop check on the tyres b4 sending to the dealer.

if your car is stock, worry free. the dealer will take care of everything and you can shoot them and demand anything to be replaced.

if after changing to stock, problem persists, then you go back to the dealer w/o telling them what happened, pretend you know nothing....got it!

Ok..

Im going to send my car to MPS tomorrow and let them sort it out lar.

Problem is i feel like a fool cause i can explain what i feel but it isnt always apparent or doesnt always occur..
hehe

Ill try tomorrow and see..

Hehe

Thanks

Zoggee:

Bro, if you dont mind, can you elabourate more about what kind of wear and tear problems that i have? Like what part that has worn out specifically?

Thanks

As an update, i finally sent the car to MPS Auto in Sunway to have a look.

Now i havent had a chance to take her out to the highway and give it a go yet but seems somewhat better. Or i could be my imagination cause MPS charged me a bomb.

It seems the rear camber was out by quite abit.

Secondly, it seems the alignment all round wasnt good.

Lastly, they claim that when the new tires was installed, and they first time inflate the air, the tire should POP out and mount itself on the rim but it didnt pop out completely and properly so thats why i felt a vibration when driving fast.

Will update again when i hit the highway and give it a go. :)
