So this is the question guys, hope can tell me how to buy part from overseas, what i mean is after buy that part or item do I need to do something? 1. If i buy engine part from E bay or any other dealer from overseas do i need any document for it?2. That item will send to my Address or collect at the Shipping company? 3. If that part arrive at Malaysia>Sabah do I need to pay any taxes? Well that all my question maybe i have in mind i will update here as well. Thank You

1. No document needed. Well, some invoice would be good but if possible keep it under RM500 including postage. Reason - see point no 3.

2. What part? Depend on size, but normally can be sent to your address. Small items by plane, big items by sea normally.

3. Not sure about Sabah, but in KL if the parcel was stopped for customs, we will need to collect in KLIA. They will want to see how much you have paid for them, including postage. The tax is calculated based on Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF). If total is less than RM500 , (not sure if this is the right amount, or there is actually a guideline, but this is what I was told) or you can convince the customs that its just for your personal use, you can get away without paying tax. Tax rates differs according to item.

Oh icic... So there a rick from buying part from overseas? and get extra payment or taxes if that part is more than RM 500? Actually im looking for camshaft that mine is broken for both intake and exhaust. So now im getting a hard way to find replacement. Here in sabah only got 1 place that sell used part, new camshaft also have but the price is more than i can afford. So right now my choice is to get from East Malaysia, but I look for any used part seem cant find it. What if i buy the part from East Malaysia + Postage to Sabah will i get tax aswell?

Oh icic..so where else can buy used part if cant find it at Malaysia?

how about importing big items say rims which costs about rm5k? some models dont sell locally and if they do, dealers would insanely mark-up..always wonder is it possible to import rims directly and how much tax would it incur..

p/s: sorry max if hijacked your thread

.. and often, postage or shipping fee itself is extremely costly.. Smallest and lightest item to be shipped here from US starts from RM150 onwards.. So the savings on parts itself often get offset by the costly postage. Only recommended for items not found here or rare items. Correct me if I'm wrong.. Not to mentioned the shipping risk.

Now Im looking for Used Part Company for BMW at East Malaysia. Only can find trough Mudah then ask them about the part im looking for. I think my item is lot in Malaysia its just need to find the shop only.

Contrary to Astroboy's experience - I had bought many stuff of the Ebay both UK and US without issues. Ok, they are not car parts but sports goods, racing gear etc. I have in mind what postage to offer to start with so that helps..... and despite most of them stating that they will not send to most Asian countries, just write to them politely and ask. Of course a 100% buying record will help plus Paypal payments only.

In regards to custom clearance, some of the items were opened before by customs ( you see the tape they use to reseal the package is from customs ) - i had never been stopped. From UK, I ask them to send using Royal Post Signed For and from US, US Post. No courier nothing....which will be of course much more expensive and frankly unrealiable! ( lost an Arai GP5 helmet once via TNT and that was to SG from UK ). Btw, no harm asking seller to mark "gift only" or put in a small value to the "customs declaration".

Good luck.

reason being is that ..
1) the seller don't know how to track their item hence thinking that it will reach their doorstep.
2) tracking numbers that's being used don't not show the movement of the item accordingly
3) items received to the seller and then the seller will dispute a claim that the items did not receive lorrr hence causing a bad image and not many sellers wanting to deal with malaysians ...

I've been buying stuff from oversea no problem. The biggest is the manual conversion kit. These are the stuff I bought - carputer case, carputer power supplies, carputer monitor, amplifier ICs, bezel, FXR projector, headlight assembly,HID kit, HID bulbs, projector shroud, carpet clips, camera lenses, camera body, lens caps, diffuser, model car, books, blu-rays (movies and games), PS3, iPads, phone etc..

To avoid tax, make sure the item and shipping is less than rm500. Over here I'm lucky since they will send the stuff to Butterworth if the item is stuck, don't have to go to KLIA.

Bro AB, sometimes even with added shipping the total price can be cheaper. Usually there will be tiered shipping method, usually the cheapest USPS (around 10usd) will arrive in less than two weeks

If the price more than RM500? How much the tax will be charge then? What makes customs hold the item? Then if im from Sabah need to go KLIA aswell to claim that item? Or only at customs office here at Sabah?

Maxion......in declaring value, of course if you buy something new & popular like ipad and the likes, the customs also know the value lar. When you buy used......make sure its written "used" or "gift - no commercial value". Keep it below RM500 lor if u can help it.

This is reason why I also shipped some stuff to SG and then bring it yourself but there also got taxes u need to pay one for new stuff. Cannot recall what but I think 7% flat...

do ur research lar....

the rm 500 rule is because we have an exemption for anything that comes in through KLIA. Under 500 which includes postage and you get it tax free.
over and you pay tax. i have never been able to understand why we have to pay tax for postage charges too.
2nd hand car parts are taxed as well, gift or not. all shipping will have to have a declared a value, and thats what they tax you on.
if you can get the seller to under declare the value you save. but if it gets lost or damaged, you only get back what you declared.
you should insist on a tracking number and only buy from buyers which have an ebay top seller rating, and feedback of 99.9%.
ebay will give you back your money if anything happens. and they are easy to deal with and the check they send to you is pretty darn cool.

i have bought tons of car parts from the state. its easy and safe if you know how to.

That cool, I found my Car part I was looking for from ebay (US), that item got 2 of it and the seller give me offer for $200+$75 (2 item + shipping), So I just ask the seller mark the item below RM500? But for 1 item not more than RM500 as well. Another things is, I should buy that item from ebay (ask him to put that item list on ebay) or deal with that person only?

Ordered a SMG steering from eBay last month valued at USD1000 and requested seller to declare at USD150 but was still taxed about RM400. Shipping was via Fedex Express and only took 5 working days. The RM500 rule may not apply in certain case, like mine.

You may contact the seller and discuss with him/her on the shipping and value declaration before making the payment.

So what shipping method that does't get tax? That seller using USPS that will get taxes?

SMG Steering for USD150? HA HA HA i think our customs can see that it will cost much more. RM400 is 13% tax and that's already less than the actual amount they need to tax. ( 20 - 30% for parts i think )

We have internet, they also have internet to check for prices from vendors if need be. :)

Well, seller actually stated that it's a used steering. :p

The problem with USPS is it's not trackable. If you're ordering something of significant value, it is advisable to ship via Fedex or DHL which can be tracked.

Reliable and trustable seller is important as well. Check for their ratings.

Been ordering plenty of stuff from eBay US ever since I got my ride, from emblems to steering wheel and license plates.

Searching and asking in Malaysia but seem cant find it or my searching only 20%. And the seller seem have nice feedback as well. Mine is broken show in picture. best to get it listed on ebay, as once its up there, and the seller has ebay protection, you can get your money back if something happens.
always only buy from good sellers with good reviews, and always insist on tracking for your shipping.

tax is on the declared value and the POSTAGE. does not matter if its used, second hand or listed as a gift.
if its a car part, then it get taxed. try listing it as something other than a car part..... i have gotten away with a fridge compressor....
