hey guysjust asking around here if anyone can advise me on where is a good place to buy a new/used piano? i mean the acoustic type and not the digital keyboards/pianos...i'm in PJ.thanks

Try Jalan Kapar Klang ... at the beginning of the Jalan Meru road in Klang town ... not in Meru town.
Saw a lorry unloading several pianos there ... It's a wooden shop, more like some old government quarters.
Near Maybank.

P/s I know nothing of piano... :)

Good Luck

i've seen a piano keyboard painted on a shop somewhere in Chow Yang, SS2. I would presume they do sell pianos.

If you know Kayu Nasi Kandar @ Chow Yang, it's the row behind.

Else, goto Yamaha la... mana-mana pun ada. Their HQ @ Kelana Jaya, opposite the previous Kelana Seafood.

buy a good used one mate... kawai's.

Check out yellow pages or star classified's there is a company specialising in good quality used. I think they are called hew & morais or something like that.

I'm talking about uprights ok, for baby grands I dont know.

A good tip would be to go to any music school and ask for contact info easy peasy....

The newer version of Yamaha is made in Indonesia. Try to get an older version/recond that is made in Japan. If budget permits get a Steinway & Sons. You'll never regret. The Boston upright is really nice.

thanks bros for the tips... now i know we have piano men in da house :) I was looking at the U series of uprights from Yamaha.
I got a look at some new digital pianos.. reconsidering my choice as i live in a condo, so noise is an issue.
Really impressed with the Clavinova from Yamaha.
Whats the starting price for a Steinway anyway? :)

Personally, I would prefer a Clavinova or a digital piano - no need to do yearly tuning or maintenance and can play with your headphones on if noise is an issue.

But then, the rich and SOLID sound from the grand is a different story laa...... :p

Since you live in a condo, the digital piano is very practical. Most of the digital pianos nowadays are RSM compliant. The feel is very much close to the real thing even though the sound is very digitized. You'll spend more time on a digital piano because it will not make you feel guilty for waking up the neighbours. Maintenance is very straightforward. No need to tune. Only need to apply special grease for the keys every year. This service gonna cost you around RM90 to RM100 per year. You can let the kids thrash the clavinova and you can still afford to smile. On the other hand, if you still like the upright piano you have to do soundproofing. This is a must. Then, selecting a good used/recond unit is not easy. Pianos don't like to be moved around. This will affect its structure thus overall sound quality. If the price is right and within your budget, then by all means please proceed. I don't like to scare you but Steinways are not cheap especially in our country. Nothing less than 100K. The popular model like the baby grand series S cost around a brand new 320i. I'll buy a special house just to keep my Steinway if I were you.

Eh, I'm surprised about the special grease thingy. Is this for a particular brand or applies across the board?

i learn something new everyday :)
I'll probably get the latest clavinova 340 from Yamaha. No need to sound proof or wake up the neighbors even though i sometimes do want to WAKE them up like they WAKE me up late at night.
Amazing technology from Yamaha. The latest generation keys with Graded Hammer 3 is fantastic. Realistically close to the real thing.

thanks guys.. any shop recommendation?

You can try going to yamaha's beat spot shop at the Curve, Subang Parade or Mid Valley. I think the one at the Curve has a wide range of clavinovas to try.

You can try mudah to pick up 2nd hand units, but it depends on your luck.

Good luck and happy piano hunting!

Go to the place that gives you discount the most. Kelana Jaya Yamaha hardly gives any discount. Service is not up to par.

the guy at hte curve branch was very friendly and helpful. i think i'll give my business to him. I suppose yamaha hardly gives discount as they are selling well. :)

thanks

I think Yamaha clavinovas are quite steady and reliable. My 7 year old unit is still rock steady. Only replaced the keyboard (within warranty) due to 2 key which were stuck. The technician who came said that there was a keyboard replacement to be done for the said batch and said that I shouldn't have any further issues after that.

This statement holds true till today. :top:
