u can get GY F1 GSD3 in 195/55x15. Cost RM250 each about 1 year ago. Dunno if prices have gone up.
I thot F1 GSD3 (German) isn't available in 15" in Malaysia ? Are you referring to the Thai-made F1 ?

But in wet, GS-D3 is better.
Certainly agree with that. The GSD3 can handle HUGE amounts of water before they start to aqua-plane ....

koryong, how's ur GIII performance?..i'm actually looking for it to match front rubbers. so far, has been asking 2 shops in seremban.....with size 215/45/17...one shop quoted rm420/pc and the other one rm400/pc (but alignment, balancing, nitrogen gas f.o.c)......thanks

if budget permit..oso will consider.....pirelli dragons or michelin pilot precedas... :D ...have to asking around seremban the prices first.....

based on my 2 months experience on front rubbers GIII (bought it together with 2nd rims), it does perform well in braking & wet condition and queit too....but just want a clearmind if i can get others comments hence on experience.....

After 2 weeks and about 1000km since fitting the new GIII, here's my take on them. Just a brief feed-back and largely based on my limited experience & comparing only with what I've used before ie. ST115, RE711, F1 GSD3 etc.

Rolling resistance :
Very little, better than ST115

Dry grip :
Fantastic ! Love going into fast corners :D although there is more side wall flex than the ST115. Also doesn't feel as "sticky" as the ST115, but still heaps of grip & similiar to RE711.

Wet grip :
Handles normal rainy days very well - cuts thru normal wet roads easily & retains excellent grip (better than RE711). But with heavy downfall & large puddles, the GIII easily aquaplanes and I had to almost fight with the steering wheel .... scary !! Much poorer than ST115 in the wet and needless to say, the GSD3.

Noise / comfort :
Darn quiet !! Heaps more silent than the RE711 and a little better than the ST115 & GSD3. Also nice & soft over bumps, probably due to the softer side walls.

Overall, a very nice tire indeed. Only need to be cautious & not go too fast in the wet. Just my 2 cents .... :)

Koryong - that's what I call a good review, informative and with comparisons. No doubt all based on your experiences....

Thanks for sharing!

used to have gIII 17", 40s, 205, hell sure it's from Jpn :D
bought that for RM270 each, a year ago though
from klang, kedai papan la (upgraded odi lor)
grip wise, fantastic
nice riding, rigid and quiet too :eek:k:

now, i wished i was riding e34 then
sure much cheaper with 16"s :(
dun mind getting gIII again, it's just immaculately superb
but looking for Jpn made la, not sure the Thais can match Japs performances.

just my 2cents

Me also currently running on 205/55/r15 GIII for the past 3 mths, overall good, like koryong says except for water puddles on rainy day, needs to be extra alert driving fast on wet days
RATING: SYIOOOOOOKKKK WOOOOO masuk kona laju2 ehehhe

I tried Yokohama ES100 on my E46 325i (225/50ZR16) and noted that it was showing signs of stress very early on after just ONE round of blitzing the Ulu Yam roads! Within a week, I changed them to Continental ContiSportContact (CSC) tyres (lost some $ on the trade-in, sigh) which I felt were better than the Yokohamas.

The CSCs has covered 65,000km so far and the wear has yet to reach the TWI! The CSCs are quiet (and comfortable when new-ish). However, the CSCs are only so-so in the wet. In the dry they're OK.

bro, according to sources in the motoring and tyre industry....chances tht tyre prices might increase again come year end or early '06!
due to rubber shortage or sumthin....

but i heard tht the bridgestones u mentioned r pretty good.

sigh.....so very soon we will all revert to using the wooden wheel again???

darn it!

rgds,
-brad-

Why not try Michelin Pilot Preceda 195/55 R15 instead? Less than RM250/pc. Good traction and quiet.

Latest update on these tires.

Was on the Seremban - KL highway yesterday, cruising nicely at 120kph when I came up against a heavy down pour. The GIII started aquaplaning even at little puddles.

It wasn't so bad when both tires hit the water together - this just dragged the car down. But when only one side aquaplanes .... darn it was SCARY !! Felt like the car was being sucked towards the truck on the next lane ... I slowed down to 90kph and it still happened although less severe.

Tons of grip on dry roads and superbly silent, but total crap in the wet, IMHO. Then again I'm comparing against the F1 GSD3 ... :dunno:

no drive fast fast on wet ler bro.... hehehee
:)

it's 205 ler bro... so, take it ez in wet.

From what u described, that's no really aquaplaning. Or maybe I'm wrong.
Was the steering 'fighting' with u when one of the tyres hit the water puddle? If that's the case, it's pretty normal. The tyre is still planted on the tarmac but the water was providing the resistance on one tyre only.

120kph.....which is already not legal and summore with rain......

brudder koryong - dun lah, our cars also lite so that nervous feeling-lah and yes, the 205 does worsen it!......anyway, how many kms already for ur GIII?
