hi all e92 owners, just to check whether any of you experience the seat-belt extender malfunction and do you know any place where can fix it/spare parts?my driver side extender cam extend and retract like normal but it just fail to hook the seat belt and it is because the hooking 'hand' is kinda loosen hence it's not strong enough to drag the belt :(

let me know if you have found someone to fix it without changing the belts. I have given up 2 yrs ago.

checked online and if your arm still extends and the hook still opens but not catch it seems you can remedy it by starching your seat belt so it stiffens to ease the hook catching it... anyways will try find the youtube tutorial and post here.

taa daa!

I also gave up years ago, only to curse and swear everytime I strain my arm to retrieve the belt. Now, this video comes up and I go "Ooooooo...."

Been there done that last week but didnt work for me :(. The culprit for mine is the hook mechanism

There is HOPE ! i was going to find out if i can disable the arm totally. anyone good at ironing here? haha... by the way, ACE sells the starch right?

A few times I found that my steering lock in the back seat foot well is the cause of the problem with the seat belt extender, but I started to notice the passenger side doesn't catch on half the time nowadays when my wife is in the car with me.

Hi OjWong,

My experience is almost same as yours, after ironing the belt with starch bought at ACE hardware, problem still persists as the culprit is the hook. It is too soft to support the belt when the extender triggers half way.

What I did was manually pulled the hook slightly out when the extender is fully stretched where a small spring can be obviously seen. God knows what happened next when a small particle broke out and since then for almost a week now, the hook is back to working condition!

If you are going to replace a new one, you wouldn't mind to do a lab test ...

Hi Darren, My problem was 100% exactly similar to yours...god knows where the heck that broken particle came from?! got rid of it and the hook back functioning normal now.

anyway just to share, i found a cheap RM8 solution! As the extension problems are either the hook mechanism part or the softening of the seatbelt. the solution below is for the latter problem.

Instead of starching the belt by ironing etc, i just bought a duck tape and alter it small enough into a small nice strip and stick in at the back of the belt as per picture below. It stiffen the belt rightaway permanently and it works 9.5 out of 10 fetches perfectly.
